Description:The University of Notre Dame's Hesburgh Libraries seek an Economics and Digital Social Sciences Librarian to be based in the Navari Family Center for Digital Scholarship. The successful candidate will serve as the primary representative of the Libraries to the Department of Economics and will also be a core member of the Navari Center, where they will provide quantitative and qualitative data consultations and teaching.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert, in-depth reference, consultation, and information services to the University of Notre Dame community, in particular to the Department of Economics.
  • Teach workshops on data use and analysis as well as specialized software applications.
  • Provide in-depth research consultations on programming/coding with statistical software (Stata, R, and/or Python), manipulating and analyzing existing large datasets, locating existing datasets (both proprietary and freely available), and creating original datasets.
  • Assist and instruct users in a wide array of electronic and print social science resources through both in-person and online collaborations. These resources may include datasets, databases, and statistical software packages.
  • Work with the Navari Center team on consultations related to data science and visualization.
  • Collaborate with the Navari Center team to provide research data management consultations and related services.

Subject Liaison/Selector Duties:
  • Provide library instruction to Economics students, faculty, affiliates, courses, and programs
  • Provide research support for Economics students, faculty, affiliates, courses, and programs
  • Develop and steward collections that serve the needs of students and faculty in Economics in alignment with organizational strategy
  • Engage in proactive outreach to, and collaboration with, the Department of Economics to expand and develop the relationship between Hesburgh Libraries and campus Economics communities

Collaborative Outreach Duties:
  • Develop and foster relationships with faculty, students, staff and other members of the Notre Dame community who seek assistance with data science research and other quantitative analysis
  • As a member of the Navari Center, grow and expand relationships with other University programs and units (e.g., the Center for Research Computing, Lucy Family Institute for Data and Society)
  • Develop interdisciplinary collaborations and research opportunities with faculty that align with the University's and the Libraries' strategic directions

Library Faculty Contributions:
  • As a member of the Library Faculty, participate in faculty and professional activities in the Hesburgh Libraries, the University of Notre Dame, and library or other professional organizations.
  • Serve on Library and University committees, task forces, and teams.
  • Engage in professional development, scholarship, and professional service.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school, equivalent degree, or other advanced academic degree
  • Proven expertise in quantitative data analysis and visualization with a background in Stata and one other relevant coding language (R or Python preferred)
  • Ability to work collaboratively and network with a diverse population, across disciplines and campuses
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Experience teaching workshops and/or formal classes

Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Ph.D. in economics or other relevant discipline
  • Experience with or interest in gaining experience with computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software such as Atlas.ti
  • Teaching experience in an academic library or academic department
