Job Summary:

Vanderbilt Health – Executive Search Team is conducting a national search for a Vice President and Chief Advanced Practice Officer.

The System Chief Advanced Practice Officer (CAPO) for Vanderbilt University Medical Center reports to the System Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in accomplishing strategic priorities for advanced practice services for the Vanderbilt Health system. Strategically plans, implements, and evaluates key initiatives in partnership with physician, nurse, administrative, and advanced practice leaders as well as interprofessional teams. Connects strategy and operations, considering individual and entity characteristics and needs.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, implement, and oversee a strategic vision and oversee a strategic vision for advanced practice across the health system. Integrate with executive leadership and participation in long-range strategic planning for advanced practice across the health system.   
  • Lead strategic initiatives for recruitment, retention, and workforce planning across the APP continuum. Analyze workforce trends to inform sustainable staffing models and workforce resilience efforts. Partner with HR and department leaders to identify talent pipelines and succession planning opportunities. 
  • Accountable for high standards of patient care across the health system. Align advanced practice clinicians with key stakeholders in evidence-based decision-making and best practices to improve care quality, safety, and outcomes.  
  • Promotes professional development, education, and innovation for advanced practice.  
  • Integrate executive advanced practice programs with other health system services. Collaborate with clinical leadership and system-wide services to implement best practices efficiently.  
  • Advocacy at local, regional, and national levels for issues relevant to advanced practice.  
  • Promote operational efficiency, effectiveness, and shared governance within advanced practice. Responsible for consulting and supporting system-wide operations, regulations, and patient care services.  
  • Expertise in knowledge dissemination, including publishing, leadership in professional organizations, and receiving industry awards.  

Qualifications:  

  • Master’s Degree and 10 years of relevant experience (MHA, MSN, etc)  

  • Licensed Advanced Practice Provider  

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • A minimum of 10 years administrative experience with increasing scope of responsibility, in an academic health care setting  

  • Doctoral Degree or willingness to pursue Doctorate.
