POSITION HIGHLIGHTS As a Correctional General Maintenance Officer, you will have the opportunity to: Provide maintenance of critical systems such as security fence and motorized gates, cell and facility door locks and hardware, and surveillance cameras and infrastructure; Supervise assigned inmates; Keep a record of tool inventory and control; Perform snow and ice removal to maintain safe access for the police, medical, staff, and public; Protect the health and safety of public, staff, and inmates; and Maintain mandated compliance with Federal & State statute and agency directives and policies by assuring humane conditions of confinement in the facility through repair and maintenance. These positions are full time on first shift, Monday through Friday, from 7:45 am until 3:00 pm. Selected candidates will be required to attend a 14-week paid hazardous duty training at the Maloney Center for Training & Staff Development located in Cheshire, CT. The Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC) is the agency responsible for corrections in the U.S. State of Connecticut. The agency operates 13 correctional facilities. It has its headquarters in Wethersfield. The DOC protects public safety by ensuring offenders serve their sentences of imprisonments in facilities that are safe, human, and provide re-entry programming. The State of Connecticut, Department of Correction is a unified system; all sentenced and un-sentenced offenders are supervised by the DOC. The Department also provides supervision for offenders on parole, community release, and other discretionary release programs. Engineering & Facilities Management Services This unit is responsible to provide centralized direction and technical assistance throughout the agency to include: management of the capital budget and plan; project design, approval and management; facility preventative maintenance; and repair. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE Three (3) years of experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of large buildings and utility services. NOTE: Based on an individual’s technical experience, the length of credited service will be determined at the discretion of facility management. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED Experience performing technical duties within the maintenance trade area on a military base, aircraft carrier or large compound may be substituted for the General Experience on a year for year basis.
