The State of Connecticut, Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), is now accepting applications for Motor Vehicle Examiner positions. These roles are part-time, flexible, travel-based that offer a variety and engagement across multiple office locations. These positions are ideal for individuals who enjoy a change of scenery and a flexible work environment! OUR TEAM The Special Work Assignment Travel Team (SWATT) is a DMV initiative to support our agency workforce across the State of Connecticut! The SWATT was created in 2019 with the goal of helping our various branches maintain appropriate staffing levels, strictly on a temporary and as-needed basis, for when our team takes a vacation or is out sick. Location assignment could be planned in advance or a SWATT staff member could know about their location assignment the day of. SWATT Branch locations include Bridgeport, Hamden, New Britain, Norwich and Wethersfield, CT. Due to operational needs, these temporary SWATT positions have changed to permanent part-time (34 hours per week) positions. Currently these positions assist with the initial intake of customers and perform motor vehicle transactions and should be proficient with operating computer systems. The incumbents may be required to work other branch locations and may be required to work overtime. Professional growth and development opportunities A healthy work/life balance to all employees POSITION HIGHLIGHTS Part-time (34 hours per week with a possibility of working up to 39 hours per week) Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 9:00 am - 4:45 pm Thursday: 10:30 am - 6:15 pm Saturday: 7:45 am - 12:45 pm Must be willing to travel. This position may require travel to different branch locations depending on agency needs. Travel would be 45 miles from the home location. First shift Office/On-Site (No telework) THE ROLE The Motor Vehicle Examiner positions are for the SWATT, where incumbents will be working in a fast-paced environment with a high volume of customer contact and money handling. We are looking for detail-oriented people with excellent customer service skills. These positions will assist with the initial intake of customers and will perform a range of motor vehicle transactions and should be proficient with operating computer systems. Incumbents may be required to work in other branch locations and may be required to work overtime. Incumbents must be willing to travel. This position requires travel to different branch locations, depending on agency needs. You will be assigned a location based on your application preferences. We encourage applicants to select all areas they are both interested in and commutable to. These positions will require travel to other nearby DMV locations, based on agency needs. Employees who are part of SWATT receive mileage reimbursement for their travel. ABOUT US The Connecticut DMV’s mission is to promote and advance public safety, security, and service through the regulation of drivers, their motor vehicles, and vehicle-related businesses. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE Three (3) years of clerical experience. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE One (1) year of the General Experience must have included clerical experience where a majority of the time involved face-to-face contact with the general public involving personal explanation or interpretation of products, policies or procedures or telephone customer service where the primary responsibility included providing information concerning or explaining programs/services or resolving problems. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED College training may be substituted for General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.
