THE POSITION The State of Connecticut, Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) is now hiring for a Buildings And Grounds Patrol Officer to join their team, in the Safety and Security Department. This position will maintain the safety and security of the agency, including Veteran patients, Veteran residents, visitors, and staff. Professional growth and development opportunities A healthy work/life balance to all employees DISCOVER THE OPPORTUNITY TO Enforce rules and regulations; Assist patients, residents, staff, and visitors; Guard the entrances and exits of the DVA campus to prevent trespassing, vandalism, theft of State and private property, and other violations; Perform vehicle and foot patrols of the DVA campus buildings, cemeteries, and other State locations; and Utilize multiple cameras, access control systems, and an intricate fire alarm system to monitor the DVA to deter crime while maintaining safety and security. ABOUT US For over 160 years, DVA has been caring for its veterans and their dependents. As a Department, we believe in "serving those who have served." This is accomplished through our: Office of Advocacy and Assistance, Residential Facility, Healthcare Center, and Cemetery and Burial Services. The DVA has supported Connecticut Veterans and continues this tradition with Residential and Healthcare programming on our campus in Rocky Hill. There are two paths for residency at the DVA: Residential Facility: offers temporary, supportive living with programming designed to return Connecticut Veterans to independent living in the community; Sgt. John L. Levitow Healthcare Center: a state-of-the-art medical facility that offers long-term care for veterans with chronic, disabling conditions who require 24-hour assistance. Our highly trained staff is dedicated to providing compassionate care to meet the unique needs of Veteran patients, built on the foundation of integrity, honor, and respect. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Any experience or training which would provide the skills and abilities indicated above. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience working in the field of security or public safety. Experience conducting vehicle/foot patrols, to prevent trespassing. Experience writing incident reports. Experience being dispatched to calls for service and using radio communication systems.
