|
Trauma Program Manager Natividad is seeking one (1) full-time Trauma Program Manager within the Trauma Services Department. Under the general direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Trauma Program Manager provides leadership and oversight of Natividad Medical Center’s (NMC) Trauma Program, including operations, quality improvement, education, outreach, and regulatory and accreditation requirements. The position coordinates interdisciplinary trauma care and supports the development and implementation of clinical protocols and practice management guidelines for adult and pediatric patients. The Trauma Program Manager ensures compliance with NMC policies, California trauma system requirements, and American College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma (COT) standards. Responsibilities include maintaining ACS verification readiness, overseeing trauma performance improvement and patient safety activities, supporting trauma registry and data management, and coordinating multidisciplinary trauma committee and outreach activities. The position manages short- and long-term program goals, budgets, program evaluation, and operational improvements while promoting high-quality, evidence-based trauma care. The Trauma Program Manager collaborates with physicians, nursing and hospital leadership, EMS, ancillary services, referring facilities, and community partners to ensure an integrated trauma system. The Trauma Program Manager serves as a clinical and program resource, liaison, and advocate, exercising independent judgment and discretion within established guidelines and scope of practice. The position maintains 24-hour responsibility for trauma program operations, clinical oversight, performance improvement, and regulatory compliance, including ongoing readiness for ACS verification and re-verification. Examples of Duties Plans, organizes, and directs the services of the NMC’s trauma program; reviews and evaluates administrative and nursing procedures; establishes nursing and unit specific standards and initiates changes as needed; confers with management and supervisory staff to discuss on-going program management and patient care issues, including but not limited to the assessment of patients, implementation of doctor’s orders, treatment plans and medical procedures, and record keeping of the same Prepares a variety of reports, correspondence, and memoranda; directs the preparation and maintenance of trauma program records, reports, and statistics in accordance with administrative and nursing policies and The Joint Commission (TJC) and Title 22 regulations Develops, maintains and monitors operating budgets, budget preparation, and short/long range planning for the trauma program Manages as appropriate the operational, personnel and financial aspects of the trauma program; including supervising, training, and evaluating trauma nurse practitioners, nurses, and clinical support staff responsible for trauma program functions Coordinates management of trauma patients across the continuum of trauma care including writing, planning and implementation of clinical protocols and practices as well as management guidelines and monitoring care of in-hospital patients Develops and manages the process for approval of standards of care, policies, procedures, and protocols for the management of trauma patients and for other patients and services affected by the trauma program Provides for inter-facility and regional professional staff development, including developing and implementing practice management guidelines with education for staff and direction of community trauma education and prevention programs Monitors clinical processes and outcomes and system issues related to the quality-of-care provided including coordination of day-to-day clinical process and performance improvement of trauma services, nursing and ancillary personnel Promotes teamwork and positive relationships within the Trauma Department and throughout the hospital. Serves as an internal resource for staff in all departments. Acts as a liaison for the Emergency Medical Services and the community Oversees the Trauma Prevention and Outreach Programs. Provides trauma center expertise, information, and leadership to institutions, agencies and individuals within Monterey County and surrounding catchment area Participates in public education to enhance prevention efforts, disseminate awareness of trauma systems and how to access them, and build support for public policy change Assures compliance with interdisciplinary and unit specific policies, medical staff by laws, policies and procedures, TJC, DHHS and other licensing authorities’ guidelines, standards, laws and regulations applicable to a level II trauma program Develops and implements policies, procedures and protocols in accordance with TJC, DHHS, State, Federal and other administrative and regulatory agency directives Develops, monitors, and implements quality control standards related to the trauma program, to include measures to monitor patient safety, compliance, and customer service satisfaction. Collects and analyzes data to monitor improvement in selected areas to ensure continuous quality improvement. Conducts focus review studies on selected areas where opportunities for improvement have been identified. Reviews, updates, and revises quality assurance plans on an ongoing basis Reviews reports and recommendations from authorized licensing, planning, regulatory and inspecting agencies and prepares appropriate plan of action when needed Identifies and recommends new products, services and equipment which will reduce operating costs and improve quality and efficiency of the nursing unit Interviews, hires, evaluates, promotes, transfers and disciplines all clinical and non-clinical personnel Manages change in an interdisciplinary health care delivery system such as restructuring/streamlining workflow/processes, and technological advances and trends in the focus of health care delivery appropriate to the trauma program Responds appropriately to all patient concerns in a timely manner. Investigates patient complaints and takes appropriate corrective action. Ensures that quality review reports are filed in a timely manner and that NMC medical and management staff are advised of unusual occurrences Conducts and participates in staff meetings, in-service training sessions and administrative meetings and committees. Assists the Nursing Education Department with providing appropriate updates, annual and continuing educational training to department staff, clinicians and staff Works with key stakeholders to develop or expand and implement medical programs or health services that promote quality patient care in line with the Mission, Vision and Values of the Hospital Promotes the services of the trauma program. Provides ongoing assessment of services and programs; broadens community awareness with the goal of increasing utilization of the trauma program; works collaboratively with other leaders to plan and implement services to meet the needs of the patients and the community Maintains effective business relationships both internal and external which support and promote the trauma program. Consults with medical, business and community groups to discuss service related to the trauma program. Coordinates all public relation activities with the Public Relations department Reviews and analyzes trauma program activities and data to aid in planning, cash, and risk management and to improve service utilization Maintains open communication between program staff, other managers, medical staff, and administration by attending appropriate meetings and coordinating interdepartmental activities when needed Works collaboratively with the Utilization Review, Case Management, and Social Services departments to ensure appropriate utilization of services and patient support when needed. Monitors use of diagnostic services, facilities, and staff to ensure effective use of resources and to assess the need for additional staff, equipment and/or services Develops and maintains effective relationships with physicians, department managers, along with other internal and external customers EXAMPLES OF EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/TRAINING Any combination of training, education and/or experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities and required conditions of employment listed above is qualifying. An example of a way these requirements might be acquired is: REQUIRED: Per California Code of Regulations Title 22, Chapte7, Article 3, Section 100259 (2), must possess and maintain a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse by the California Board of Registered Nursing Education: Completion of coursework leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner is desirable. AND Experience: Eight (8) of progressively responsible nursing experience of which four (4) years should be in a critical care, emergency department, or trauma center environment and at least two (2) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience.
