About   (request update)
I, Reginald Mitchell, have been a professional educator for over thirteen years. I have taught every age and grade from Kindergarten up to adulthood. I am also grateful that I have been afforded to teach and live in four countries on four different continents including my native USA.
In 2006-2007, I completed the academic school year teaching in Belfast, Northern Ireland as a participant in the US Department of State, Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program.
I completed a three-year stint teaching English as a Foreign Language in Hsinchu and Taoyuan Counties, Taiwan from 2008-2010. I was a pilot participant in the Taiwan/American Teacher Exchange Program sponsored by the Graduate School, International Institute and the Taiwan Ministry of Education.
In 2011, I served as an educational consultant to the TEACH South Africa Education NGO in Johannesburg. I worked closely with the English Language Programs and TEACH Ambassadors. I was an English Language Fellow via the US Embassy in Pretoria and Georgetown University.
Currently, I am a Special Education Teacher with the Department of Defense Education Activity at Yokota High School on Yokota Air Base in Tokyo-Fussa, Japan.

A native of Millport, Alabama, I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stillman College and a Master of Education in Special Education degree from the University of West Alabama. I am currently enrolled in the Post Graduate School Psychology Program at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. I also hold a Teaching English as a Second Language (TEFL) certificate.

My education and travels have aided my personal and professional goals in the following ways: On a personal level, I gained more knowledge and awareness of international education, cultures, and policies throughout the world. My professional goal was enhanced by informing public education groups, organizations, and policy makers on the importance of international education and the need to continue the efforts of importance programs, such as Fulbright.

I have received many awards and recognitions including being named Big Brothers Big Sisters Volunteer of the Year for 2003, Jacksonville State University Teacher Hall of Fame nominee for 2000, a Tuscaloosa County Foundation for Educational Excellence grant recipient in 2000 and 2009, and Alabama’s recipient for the 2009 NEA Teaching Excellence Award.
I belong to numerous professional, civic and social organizations including the National Education Association, Phi Delta Kappa International, Council for Exceptional Children, and Rotary International.
I have visited over 20 countries on four different continents, and 35 of the USA States to include Hawaii, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.
