Tyffani Monford Dent, Psy.D. is a Licensed Psychologist and lectures often at universities, non-profits, churches, and other community organizations. Currently, she serves as the psychologist and consultant for a residential treatment facility and Clinical Director of a community-based counseling center. In addition, she is the Contributing Psychologist to The Brown Girl Collective Radio Show as well as a writer for www.YouParent.Com.
Dr. Dent received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Wright State University School of Professional Psychology and completed her undergraduate studies at Wilberforce University. Dr. Dent has co-authored articles related to mental health issues and serves on state and local committees addressing the emotional well-being of women and children. In addition, she serves on the boards of several organizations including NAMI-Greater Cleveland’s Executive Board. Dr. Dent is also the Vice-President of the Ohio chapter-Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA), is the interim co-chair of the Organization and Development Committee for national ATSA, serves on its national Education & Training Committee and is its At-Large National Representative. In addition, she was recently selected to work on a statewide multidisciplinary initiative comprised of sexual abuse victim advocacy groups, public defenders, mental health providers, and state personnel to identify and recommend prevention and intervention strategies to address the needs of victims, juvenile perpetrators, and communities around issues of sexual violence.
Through her collaboration with the Ohio Alliance to End Sexual Violence, she has as a primary area of emphasis assisting African-American churches in being a place of prevention and intervention in the area of sexual abuse. Dr. Dent is also the PREA (Prison Rape and Elimination Act) Special Projects Coordinator to assist in the partnership between rape crisis centers and the Ohio Department of Youth Services.
Dr. Dent is a sought-after presenter on topics such as child/adolescent mental health issues, and those related to women’s emotional wellness. She has authored two books---- Girls Got Issues: A Woman’s Guide to Self-discovery and Healing, a self-help book addressing women’s emotional health and You Got This! A Girl’s Guide to Growing Up, addressing the needs of girls. She has also served as a manuscript reviewer for International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology as well as having published an article in The African-American Pulpit magazine on sexual abuse and faith communities. Her Sisters of Tamar Support Circle curriculum is available to faith-based communities as a resource for addressing the needs of sexual abuse survivors in those communities.
Dr. Dent is a graduate of Wilberforce University and Wright State University. She is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. initiated at Beta Chapter and currently active in the Greater Cleveland Alumnae Chapter. Dr. Dent makes her home in northeast Ohio with her husband and two daughters. When she finds spare time, she continues to write poetry and plays addressing subjects relevant to women and girls.
