Dr. Annie J. Daniel has over 20 years of experience as an educator and education leader in higher education. She has spent most of her career in academic and veterinary medicine. Her areas of expertise are curriculum development, course design, educational research, educational technology, student academic support, faculty development, educational policy, and strategic planning.

I have had a diverse and distinguished career in education, leadership, and healthcare, where I have consistently demonstrated my dedication to improving educational systems and professional development opportunities. As a lifelong educator and advocate for diversity and inclusion, my professional aspirations focus on enhancing the representation of Black individuals in healthcare education and leadership roles. I strive to bridge the gap in healthcare professions by empowering students from underrepresented communities through mentorship, leadership programs, and educational advancements. I envision a future where healthcare and veterinary fields reflect the diverse society they serve, leveraging her expertise in curriculum design, program evaluation, and faculty development to create inclusive educational environments that foster growth, excellence, and equity. My life's work is driven by the desire to impact systemic change in healthcare education, ensuring that future generations are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities needed to succeed and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

The Founder and CEO of the Institute for Healthcare Education Leadership and Professionals (iHELP) and the National Association for Black Veterinarians (NABV) will lead and oversee all strategic and operational aspects of both nonprofit organizations. iHELP is dedicated to increasing the presence and success of Black individuals in healthcare through education, leadership, and professional development. NABV, as the first initiative of iHELP, focuses specifically on the veterinary medicine field, striving to uplift and support Black veterinarians. This dual role requires a visionary leader with a passion for healthcare equity and the empowerment of underrepresented communities. Key Responsibilities: Visionary Leadership: Craft a compelling vision for iHELP and NABV that aligns with the mission to promote diversity in healthcare professions. Lead the organizations into new opportunities for growth and impact. Strategic Planning: Develop and execute strategic plans that effectively address the goals of increasing the number of Black individuals in healthcare fields. Program Development: Oversee the creation and implementation of programs that provide networking, career development, and educational resources to target demographics from K-12 to professional levels. Fundraising and Financial Stewardship: Drive fundraising efforts, ensuring financial sustainability. Manage budgets, maximize resources, and report to stakeholders with transparency. Advocacy and Community Engagement: Serve as the principal spokesperson, engaging with community leaders, educational institutions, and healthcare organizations to advance the objectives of iHELP and NABV. Team Leadership and Organizational Management: Build and manage a high-performing team. Establish a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. Partnership Building: Foster strategic partnerships with relevant entities to support the mission of both organizations.

Des Moines University, as the Director of the Center for the Improvement of Teaching and Learning (CITL), her primary responsibilities were the overall development, management, and overseeing implementation of initiatives that facilitate improving faculty pedagogical skills and assessment. The Center provided leadership in carrying out services to the administration, departments, faculty, and students by offering advice and expertise in the various aspects of education, including policy development and implementation, educational technology, evaluation, measurement and testing services, curriculum development, and course design, academic research, clinical skills development, and student and faculty development.

Her overall responsibility was to continue to develop the outcomes assessment model and curriculum mapping and give advice for the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree program. In addition, she is responsible for the outcomes assessment reporting and data collection for the School of Veterinary Medicine Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree used for preparing accreditation reports and analyzing data for both the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and the AVMA Council on Education (COE) DVM degree program accreditation.

Director of the Office of Medical Education and Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine in the School of Medicine at Tulane University since 2006. Dr. Daniel was hired following the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to reestablish the Office. Upon arriving at Tulane University School of Medicine, she only had two staff and no office facilities. Under her leadership, the Office has grown to a staff of eight and expanded the types of services provided to the School of Medicine. As Director of the Office of Medical Education, Dr. Daniel manages the day-to-day operations; she is responsible for the overall direction of the Office, provides leadership in carrying out services to the administration, departments, faculty, and students by offering advice and expertise in the various aspects of medical education which include: evaluation, measurement and testing services, educational policy, strategic planning, curriculum development and course design, educational research, educational technology, student academic support, and faculty development.
