Claim To Fame:
2022 was the year I realized how deeply I was infatuated with film direction and cinematography. My transition from eighth to ninth grade was difficult. I often felt isolated, trying to find my place and acceptance among my peers. During that time, I found peace in movies, music, and storytelling. I spent weekends staying up late watching and studying my favorite films, asking myself, “How are people able to create such emotional and compelling stories?” Quentin Tarantino, James Gunn, Ryan Coogler, Michael B. Jordan, Jonah Hill, and Kendrick Lamar became major inspirations. I would spend hours talking to my father about them, pointing out the framing of a scene, the colors in a room, or how a film score could completely change an audience’s emotions. I wasn't just watching movies anymore; I was studying them. By senior year, I felt a spark inside me, an ambition to create something of my own. I began working as a graphic designer and videographer, marketing events at the Wilmington Public Library. I had the opportunity to capture Taye Diggs, Garrett Morris, LisaRaye McCoy, NeNe Leakes, and Kym Whitley. Although those experiences strengthened my resume, I knew I wanted more. I joined Middletown High School’s yearbook club, which gave me media access on the football field. My mother began letting me use her camera, and I got to work. That first football game became the beginning of my photography business, AG Visuals. As I grew my following, however, my hunger for storytelling remained. I wanted to make movies, music videos, and stories that could make people feel something. I often told myself, “I want to be like Ryan Coogler.” I believed that with enough dedication, I could become the filmmaker I imagined myself being. I eventually made the difficult decision to leave track and field after winning the state championship in indoor track. I could have continued competing, but I could no longer ignore the voice telling me to create something new. That decision led to my first short film, “February 14th,” about a boy spending Valentine’s Day alone. After receiving positive feedback, I had the opportunity to shoot a music video for Wilmington artist Zeeky El titled “They Don’t Know & Strange’r the Times.” I continue to write stories and develop concepts while perfecting my craft. In Fall 2026, I will attend Delaware State University, majoring in New Media in Arts and minoring in Marketing. I hope to expand my skills, build connections, and turn my ideas into meaningful work. My journey began with feeling isolated and searching for somewhere I belonged. I found that place in storytelling. One day, I hope to have a movie premiere in my name “Directed by Aidan Gross”.
