AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF STEPHANIE DAVIS
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield (--Ulysses, by Alfred, Lord Tennyson)
This particular quote has been my mantra since I was a student in high school. I have never forgotten it, because I use it as a reminder of the reasons why I wish to pursue goals on an academic, professional, and personal level.
I was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. I am the eldest of two children.
My educational background is extensive. I am a 1983 graduate of Holy Family Elementary School; a 1987 graduate of A.H. Parker High School; a 1995 graduate of Miles College with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education; a 2003 Honors graduate of ITT Technical Institute with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Electronics Engineering Technology; a 2007 graduate of the University of Phoenix with an MBA in Technology Management.
My past and present involvement in several organizations gave me the opportunity for leadership, service and personal growth. My present membership consists of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary. I worked as an Operations Supervisor and an Interim Site Administrator with TeleTech Holdings Inc., a customer management center. I am a former employer of the Birmingham City Schools System, where I taught in Third Grade and Second Grade respectively for seven years. Since the project ended before the expected date (March 31, 2007), I am currently employed as a Secretary at the National Institute of Health's Heart, Lung, and Blood Insitute in the Office of Science & Technology.
Despite life¡¦s challenges, I have been able to overcome them. It has not been easy for me, but I am determined to accept change, and at the same time, find new opportunities for personal and professional growth. Outside of work and school, I enjoy reading, attending cultural events, listening to different musical genres (rhythm & blues, jazz, classical, spiritual, decades music), community service and cleaning (it is relaxing for me).
I have recently earned my Master of Business Administration in Technology Management degree from the University of Phoenix. I relocated to Washington, DC to pursue a Master of Arts in Human Resource Management and other employment opportunities as of January 12, 2008. I transferred to George Mason University to pursue a master's degree in Organizational Development and Knowledge Management at the School of Public Policy. I now reside in Arlington, VA.
Life & Professional Aspirations:
To have my own business that deals with the music industry
Publish and distribute my own book
To be married and raise a family
Financially able to contribute to charitable contributions
Offer time and talent to my community through volunteering and community service projects
Develop a deeper relationship with God
Be able to take care of my mother
Complete my studies in graduate school
I was known affectionately by my sorority sisters as "The 23rd Founder." There are only 22 founding members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. When it came to the sorority, I wanted to know as much history as possible, as well as get involved in the community and on campus.
Most Memorable Moment:
I met Nikki Giovanni in person, who is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
I was Miss SGA for Homecoming 1992.
I developed positive relationships on campus and some of my classmates and Sorors still keep in contact with each other after 12-15 years.
