Claim To Fame:
My interest in implementing a quantitative approach to psychological ideas or, in general, real-world situations is my "claim to fame". I enjoy computation/mathematical processes and working with numbers, but I also have a deep interest in neurodiversity and psychological conditions and/or diseases. Therefore, I am currently pursuing a Psychology Major, with a Mathematics minor, while taking various Computer Sciences courses. With this array of subjects, I aim to incorporate a numbers-based approach in my clinical psychiatry career. For example, I had the opportunity to experience the intersection of computation and psychology in the 2024 Analytics for Good Institute Hackathon. I collaborated with others to analyse data regarding the result of a certain legislature being passed in a country and its impact on the work force (from the perspective of job applicants and job employers). I was able to assist my group in calculating the set quantitative result, so we were then able to imply qualitative results of the legislature being passed to determine if the law should be passed outside of this country as well. This experience solidified my desire to merge Psychology and Computation - which, since it combines both of my interests, further inspires me to work hard to achieve my goals.
Most Memorable Moment:
So far, my most memorable moments in college have been: i) Phylicia Rashad's speech during the HU27 Pinning Ceremony. Her speech edified my confidence in the quality of education and the overall enriching experiences and opportunities that I would receive by attending Howard University. ii) Volunteering in the 2024 Howard University Alternative Spring Break Program. Via this program I was able to volunteer alongside almost 100 peers in Louisville, Kentucky under the initiative of Youth Empowerment and Housing Instability. This experience enlightened me on the way in which certain decisions can impact my life while allowing me to serve welcoming and engaging communities.
