As the Program Director and Assistant Professor for the Speech-Language Pathology program at the University of the District of Columbia, I play a vital role in shaping the educational experience of our graduate students. My responsibilities encompass a blend of academic instruction, program leadership and administration, and research oversight. In the classroom, I teach core courses such as Neuroanatomy, Adult Neurogenic Disorders, Medical Speech-Language Pathology, and Thesis Development. Through these courses, I aim to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the neurological underpinnings of communication disorders, as well as the clinical skills necessary for effective assessment and intervention. I emphasize evidence-based practices and encourage critical thinking, ensuring that our students are prepared to meet the diverse needs of clients in various healthcare settings. As the Program Director, I oversee the curriculum development and implementation, ensuring that our program adheres to the highest standards of academic excellence and aligns with the evolving landscape of speech-language pathology. I facilitate collaborations with community partners and healthcare facilities, providing students with valuable clinical experiences and opportunities for interdisciplinary learning. Additionally, I support students in their thesis research, guiding them in exploring innovative topics that advance the field of speech-language pathology. My commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment is central to my role, as I strive to empower our students to become compassionate and competent professionals dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with communication disorders.
