About   (request update)
Current Whereabouts:
“How can a mere snapshot of the world express the emotional significance that is so palpable and ubiquitous to me?” As I held the Fujifilm camera for the first time, it was clear to me that I had no idea what I was doing, but its ability to capture fleeting moments through a small rectangle intrigued me enough to venture into the unknown world of photography. Flash forward to freshman year: a new chapter, a new school, and new complications. I was old enough to know that my perennial boredom needed to be replaced by some “substance,” yet young enough that I had too many options. Luckily, the photojournalism class I enrolled in challenged me in unexpected ways; after capturing the tourists' industrial vibrancy, the corporate professionals' urgency, and the carefree spirit of local dancers, I felt a shift in my perception. The world around me was translated into art. I had consistently restricted my understanding of the artistic eye, neglecting the reality of the real world. Honing my skills became the priority when I enrolled in the Bronx Documentary Center, from camera operation to composition. The large windows of the school created an ideal environment for practicing photography, where my teachers encouraged me to be patient for the "perfect shot." Their guidance fostered my appreciation for everyday beauty and ignited a lifelong passion for digital photography. As I experimented with various techniques, I became proficient in using the rule of thirds, contrast, and depth of field to convey my emotions in my work. My growing skills led me to focus on intricate details, like ants on a leaf and shoes hanging from street lamps. This journey deepened my interest in capturing the ephemeral beauty of nature, particularly the ever-changing azure and ginger skies, and has thus shaped my perspective, allowing me to see the world through a different lens, both literally and metaphorically. “You should keep doing it. You’re good at it.” “Yeah, I should.” I've gone through a lot of changes since my first year of high school. I've grown 5 inches and gained more confidence in myself and what I can do. Instead of searching through a bleak, boring hole of teenage life, I now focus on what I enjoy. This change has made me more excited about the world around me. Being able to be myself without worrying about what others think has allowed me to put more effort into my studies and community. This journey of personal growth, fueled by my passion for photography, has made me feel more connected and understood. Photography is not just a passion of mine; it is a way I interpret and make sense of the world. Through the lens of a camera, I learn to notice the subtle details and fleeting moments that might otherwise go unseen. This pursuit teaches me that there is always more beneath the surface, whether I am framing a photograph or unraveling the mysteries of life and nature. My fascination with capturing the world’s beauty has evolved into a desire to understand the underlying creativity that governs it. I now aim to be a phenomenal cinematographer, but I'm okay with looking up to Daniel Ortega now.
