Hello, my name is Keyasia Akridge. I am an incoming freshman at Virginia State University. I love to praise God, sing, dance, and play softball. I have always known that I wanted to help people. For a long time, I thought I was going to become a therapist. However, one day I went to work with my mom, and her coworkers told me not to become a therapist because there is no clear way to work your way up in that field.
Later, I had to take my little cousin to her therapy appointment. She has cerebral palsy, and I loved the office setting. Little did I know, there was another woman there helping a little boy with his speech through games like toss. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to help children with disabilities improve their speech.
