Claim To Fame:
My claim to fame in college had to be when I started participating in school activities. I had grew up going to school with mainly white people all my life, and hadn't been around so many people like me. I was more to myself, but when I started going out and engaging more with the college community, my experience got so much better. I was able to learn so much about myself and was able to make so many friends and connections while there.
Most Memorable Moment:
One of my most memorable college experiences was when I was struggling in my chemistry class. I had met with my professor to let him know that I was considering dropping the class, and Instead of encouraging me to withdraw, he had encouraged me to stay. He reminded me of all the resources available to me, and also offered to work with me one on one. After those sessions, not only did I improve my understanding of the material, I gained confidence in my ability to succeed in that class. It was the first time in my years of learning that I felt that a teacher was personally invested in my success. Opposed to me coming form a majority white school, I believe that attending an HBCU showed me that the professors genuinely care for their students, and are willing to go the extra mile to help them achieve their goals. In the end, all of the hard work paid off, and I passed the class with an excellent grade.
