About   (request update)
Suzanne Waters Street, alumna of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), is serving a dual role at the university as agriculture communications specialist for University of Maryland Extension and for the School of Agricultural and Natural Sciences. Following a 5-year stint as director of public relations, she has trained her PR and marketing skills on providing visibility for the school’s scientific research activity. In performing her job, which has evolved since her appointment in January 2010, she utilizes four publications, several of them created by her, as editor-in-chief to tell the land-grant story of the 1890 institution.

As assistant director and then director of public relations, Street established a platform for interdepartmental communications that has remained in place and even improved following her time in the public relations office. In addition, she managed communications on behalf of UMES to local and national media outlets as well as news access to some of the university’s most prestigious visitors, from Nobel Laureate Bishop Desmond Tutu to jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis. She has managed printed and on-line communications to the university that today includes several social media outlets.

Prior to holding two positions in the UMES Office of Public Relations, assistant director 2001-05 and director 2006-10, Street assisted Dr. William P. Hytche, President Emeritus, with the writing and publication of his memoirs (Step by Step to the Top, published in 1999) and the history of the university (Polishing the Diamond, published in 2002). In 2000, as a non-traditional student, she earned a UMES Bachelor of Arts degree in English, summa cum laude. In 2006, she earned a pair of Master of Business Administration degrees in marketing and management from American InterContinental University.

As a budding public speaker, her special interests center on the mother/child relationship and its far-reaching effects. Besides her accomplishments in public relations and marketing, she is especially grateful for the opportunity to raise three home-schooled children with her husband, Earl, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. They will be the inspiration for her book, “Raising Doctors!”
