The University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business announced a new scholarship program targeting under-represented minorities. A total of 15 full-tuition scholarships – valued at $56,000 each at current tuition rates – will be awarded to improve access to the Full-time UST MBA Program and ensure a diverse learning environment for students. The new program, open to U.S. citizens and permanent U.S. residents who enroll in the two-year master’s degree beginning in Fall 2012, places an MBA education within financial reach for a broader segment of future leaders.

“Lack of access to merit-based scholarships can be a barrier to some students. These new scholarships allow us to attract the best and the brightest from all backgrounds, supporting our vision to be recognized for excellence in educating highly principled, global business leaders.”

States Bill Woodson, assistant dean for MBA programs at St. Thomas, “Major employers tell us that the ability to collaborate effectively across differences in ethnicity and race as well as generational and gender diversity, is of greatest importance when hiring MBAs.”

Christopher Puto, Ph.D., dean and Opus Distinguished Chair of the Opus College of Business, adds, “Lack of access to merit-based scholarships can be a barrier to some students. These new scholarships allow us to attract the best and the brightest from all backgrounds, supporting our vision to be recognized for excellence in educating highly principled, global business leaders.”

The National Black MBA Association, Inc. (NBMBAA) and National Society for Hispanic MBAs, Inc. (NSHMBA) will serve as promotional partners for the new program. Undergraduate institutions, businesses and other organizations are encouraged to share this opportunity with their under-represented minority students and young professionals.

Interested candidates must submit an application by February 15, 2012 and may visit http://cob.stthomas.edu/MBAOutreach for more information.
