The John Lennon Scholarship from BMI Foundation, Inc. was established in 1997 by Yoko Ono, who wanted to further memorialize her husband and his tragic death in 1980.
The John Lennon Scholarship is open to college students between the ages of 15 and 24 who are aspiring songwriters. Applicants must submit a recording of an original song that they wrote. They must also come from select universities in the country, which are specified in the application process. First place in the songwriting scholarship competition will receive $10,000. Second and third will receive $5,000 each and honorable mentions will win $2,000. The deadline for this year’s John Lennon Endowed Scholarship is April 13. | |
