The application is available in January of every year and can be downloaded from the foundation website. Scholars are selected and notified in June. Scholarship awards varies upon the amount of fund raised annually and can range of up to a maximum of $5000. Note: The scholarship awards are given to the student, not the institution!

Eligibility requirements are as follows:

*African-American residents of the United States
* High school seniors currently completing his or her senior year of high school and planning to attend a 2 – or 4-year college or university.
* Student application must provide evidence of scholastic achievement, leadership, extensive community service and un-met financial need for college.

Note: Students already attending college or university are not eligible for this scholarship. Immediate family members of LEAD Scholarship Foundation, Inc.
members or Merck Employees are also not eligible for
scholarship.
