After watching a relative of mine who plays football for Carolina the past couple of weeks, I remembered when he was living in Laurinburg, people used to compare us all the damn time. I was one of the smartest kids in the state, but he was the all star athelete. All of our classmates used to say "How come you ain't all athletic like Jacques?" Granted, I did play sports, but some people don't count golf and tennis as a sport... :? I doubt anyone said much to him about me besides "Ya'all are actually realted?!" But I never heard the end of it... even when he left Laurinburg. Regardless, now Jacques is being actively recruited by the NFL, pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Two years ago I believe and is once again on everyone's watch list. While I'm still hitting the books. Once again when I go home, I hear "Why aren't you all althletic like Jacques?!" from people who aren't leaving that lil podunk place while I'm here, once again, hitting the books. Keep in mind, that I have no grudge against the guy or anything, and our family, including him, recognize that I'm doing my thing just as much as he is and always has (as a matter of fact, the family was MORE impressed that I was going to A&T on a full ride than the fact that he was starting on UNC's football team), however its irritating that people that are going nowhere in life don't see this...
My point is:
Who in your family does everyone else either in the family or in the community try to compare you to?
And this is my cousin:
Tailback #20 Jacques Lewis
^^lol, this boy is a trip. Anyways, I'm never compared to any of my other family members. Yup, that's right, I'm in a league of my own buddy!! Aight, lemme quit actin silly. Although I'm never compared to anyone else, my little cousin gets it bad. My uncle always pressures him to do the things that I did when I was his age and I constantly remind him that my little cousin and I are NOT the same people and he's not obligated in any way to walk in my footsteps.
I dont think that I am compared to anyone in my family simply because im so different . But alot of people compare others to me (I think that makes sense)
well me and my sister are twins and we both play sports and all taht but she plays basketball and i run track and played softball. some people say that my sports weren't sports and ask why i don't play b-ball; that we could be the twin towers cause we're so tall. they always compare who's meaner, who's prettier, who's quicker to get and attitude or fight. they always ask those stupid twin questions.
my sisters DeNeale (Central State alum) & Myla(HU student). Myla's the more successful 1 & DeNeale's still struggling but makin' it & any time sumthin happens they say how i need 2 be more like 1 of them & they tell a story about it.
well everyone attempts to compare my brothers and cousins to me. Im not compared to anyone actually.
no hold on I take that back my God mother compares me to my pops although I have no Idea what he looks like. she says i look just like him.
does that count? well anyway thats it. my family is just compared to me because they look at me as the successful one since I have been everywhere and did damn near everything.
