how are u paying for spelman? Posted on 03-19-2005
Karamel_Dyme

well i was accepted to spelman in dec. but i haven't made a final decision about going there because i'm not sure about how we're gonna pay for it. to all of the people to currently go to spelman: how are you paying for school? did spelman offer u any money? are u taking out a loan? spelman is my 1st choice and i wanna go there by any means necessary but i figure if i take out a loan for it, i'll be waaaaaaay in debt by the time i graduate from med. school (which i'm gonna have to borrow money for too.). well any replies would be helpful. Brittany

The only scholarship I have is the HOPE scholarship, and the rest is from my parents' pockets. Did you get any info about being a Bonner Scholar? It's a community service scholarship program. I don't know how much scholarship money you receive, but I would have applied for it if I qualified. If you have anymore questions, you can pm me.

I think I got my financial aid info sometime in April, so I think it should be coming soon.

By the way, I finished reading your post *silly me* and saw you don't want college loans b/c you will be in debt. I'm going to med school after Spelman and think about it you will make over six figures. First, college debt is not bad debt, and second you will make over six figures. My dad is a doctor and still has some student loans and we are not suffering by any means. You will still be able to have a great car, house, clothes, and put money in savings. I know I'm doing the same way and will not let cost keep me from going to my dream school because there are so many girls who wish they could go to Spelman.
