Sigh...
Just opened the mail. I got the the bill for my sons HBCU for the fall of 05 and the Spring of 06...
I just ain't feelin it :-(
Partna's grades were decent. He still been a handful this Summer but it just don't feel like it felt this time last year when he was going to be a Freshman.
I am lookin at upwards of 25K for the tuition and fees...We put him in a spankin brand new apartment so that's another 6K. We gotta do about 4 or 5 round trip air fares...August, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break and Homecoming for me and the hubby... His spending money runs about 400 hundred a month which is another 4K...He don't got no new clothes or shoes so Im mo have to get him sumthin...Books and supplies is gonna be about 600 hundred cause he in the B school...We gotta ship all his stuff back which is another 300 hundred bucks...Partna wants us to ship his car as he is gonna get the B-mer in August...I gotta help him set up his apartment...This is the short list when I think of some other expenses for him...
So, we talkin about...40K... Son will bring aproximately 3K to the table after his Summer work is done.
We got it but, I just ain't motivated to break him off like this but, I ain't gonna fake on him...HELP....
Give me some inspiration, motivation...fo real! NO HATIN...thanks!
How do you know what his Spring 06 fees are already and fall 05 hasnt even gotten here yet. I thought all schools bill u by semester once u register for that term. :???:

Not to sound like i am "hatin'" but why are you discussing your finances with us.. I don't really want to know about your sounds 'brand new apartment' altough i am happy a brotha got a place to live and what not but honestly ma'm thats really none of my business, but i guess discussing your finances is something to boost your ego.. i dunno smells funny.. well anyway if its not i apologize, and hope that you get everything together with your son's tution..

most schools do bill by semester...but tuition, room and board is unlikely to go up after fall semester...they only go up every summer before fall...or at least that's how it works at my school.
but damn, 40K? See this is why I switched to an In State PWI...hell of
anyway I digress...tell ur son to start lookin for scholarships...the more, the better. There are MILLIONS of dollars available to him, if he only takes the time to search for them.
Sigh...

More skepticism...more scrutiny...
Good Grief!
Miss OES:
My son's HBCU and many other HBUC absolutely HAVE to inform you of your annual tuition and fees. If you want to do proper fiscal planning and projecting you must have all of the information possible to do just that. You do not have to believe me. Go to ANY hbcu website and lo and behold you will find the 2005-2006 tuition, fees etc. My bill happens to contain all of that information as well as details on how to pay the bill. It is clear to me that you are not the one who pays your tuition bill or reads your financial statements for your hbcu, so you probably should have done minimal research...maybe on someone elses bill/statement before you stuck yourself out there.
MM:
If this thread did not float your financial boat then you should have not bothered to reply. SInce you did I will afford you the courtesy of answering your questions to me.
MANY hbcu moms and students discuss their college living conditions in great detail. I do too. I think that 6K is high for housing when you saddle that up with the annual tuition and fees and so on, so I mentioned his housing conditions(BRAND NEW) so that it would make some sense to the critical and analytical eye.
What you smell is none of my concern. Maybe it's the new wood, new paint or new things that he will get for his band new apartment.
My ego being dragged into this is disappointing. I see absolutely nothing "funny" or egotistical about somebody who is fiscally responsible asking for financial input. If you check the internet and don't squash your pop ups you will see that what I did was not something involving ego at all. If I had such an ego I would not have posted my relevant hbcu question about an hbcu issue...paying the tuition and more out of my pocket and how I felt on yesterday about doing that.
I accept your apology.
Fly:
YOU have a very bright future. You read, you comprehend and you respond to the query. Thank you. My son's hbcu just got the final tuition and fees together and they did the RIGHT thing in letting me know that financial change was a comin for BOTH semesters.
I pushed, pleaded and prodded with son to complete his FAFSA on time and to look into available scholarships. The deadlines all passed and son does not qualify at this time for scholarships. As you know these things are highly competetive. He has a certain GPA that he must make for his upcoming Sophomore year. If he falls short then he will need to apply for loans for his Junior year. Son has access to lots of scholarships and money, he just has to do his part a tad bit better.
Cafe, and Aggie:
What you see is your right. What you know needs some work. Engage all of your faculties when you embark upon fiscal questions. Your HELP and suggestions leave me at a loss for words. I digress...
That you would latch onto an expense that is less than 1% of my annual expenses and accuse me of having a "boosted ego" situation absolutely baffles me.
You have NO and I do mean NO idea how tiny, tiny, tiny that 40K is on my side of the keyboard. Again, my post was about my not feelin this expense at this time. Nothing more...nothing less.
Trust me you will NEVER get the opportunity to truthfully post that I entered into a discussion with you about My finances.

Hold on Miss Thang...
Lemme get some sh*t straight with you right quick. Never have I disrespected you or came at you in a rude or sarcastic manner on this board when you come on here posting your juvenile issues about wanting to take 12 year olds to 50 Cent concerts, worrying about ur damn son pledging a frat, and other lil sh*t nobody gives a damn about that concerns you, your son, or your finances. SECONDLY dont try to play me. Your comment was on some real unnecessay sh*t. I didnt come at you at all rude when I made my reply. I was being very genuine and serious when I made my comment/question and I put up the lil confused emoticon but I was confused as to why a school would already be billing you for the spring 06 term. THIRD of all, as far as my finances are concerened dont worry about what the fukk I know and dont know. You the one on here airing your business to a bunch of 20, 21 year olds. You think people like you when in actuality they're laughing at your **** for ur thinking you still young and cool...Yea young cool and dumb. As far as what you think i must " clearly " not know...OBVIOUSLY all schools have a mean average as to what a student will probally pay in the course of a school year when you incorporate tuition for the 2 semesters, housing, books, health fees, etc...I take out a $20,000 fukking loan a year in my name. Cause I know I will need around that much to pay cover my fees for both semesters aong with other lil expenses. I think I would know aLIL sumthin. Yea, as STUDENTS we all OBVIOUSLY know about on AVERAGE how much we will prolly spend on school a year knowing how much we pay per credit hour and whatnot, but I havent never known any instituion that actually bills you ahead of time before you even register for that semester. What sense would that make of them billing you before you even register? For all they know you could be taking a semester or year off....But since you wont tell us the HBCU your son " allegdly " attends I guess we will never no. But I think its fair to say 99% of institituions bill you by semester. With the exception of your sons HBCU that is cause CLEARLY they bill you for the entire school year up front.
I apologize to everyone else on here for going off like that, but this old **** lady **** me off. :x
