Attention Spelman College Class of 2009 Posted on 07-06-2005
spelmanwoman06

Good Afternoon Future Spelmanites, I just wanted to write you a quick note as you start registering for classes. Freshman year is the time to boost your GPA by taking easy core classes. It is the time to party and truly enjoy college as well as being away from home. After freshman year, you will notice that as you take your major class the work load will increase. Major classes are the classes that grad. school look at and they also determine your role on the campus academically. Thus, as a freshmen, please avoid taking "hard" teachers that classes will not play a drastic role in your overall academic experience. Taking these classes will do nothing but lower your GPA or make your work much harder than other students in the same classes with different teachers. I am enclosing a list of classes of teacher who are crazy or just plain hard. Have a great summer and see you this fall. ADW: Bozeman: Test for ADW, yeah right. Gives unnecessary work. Phillips- Lewis: A history teacher. Class is crazy. I made a B+ in her class and this is after a semester of no tests or papers! PE- Do not take Walking and Jogging. You have to walk/ run though the Westend and you will have locals honking at you as you run by on your 2 mile walk. Also, other college student (Morehouse) will see you all sweaty and out of breath. Spanish: DO NOT TAKE: Finley, Jones, Glad (She is crazy that she told one of her students that she had the mental capacity of a 5 year old.) The best is Schmitt- She is super nice and I took her for both of my sessions. CSI- Do not take Kearse- She is mean!

Do NOT take this professor Interdisciplinary Science (IDS)-Dr. Payne: too much work for a general requirement Do take these professors ADW-Dr. Scott- you have to work but she is really informative and the discussions are great Honors Philosophy-Dr. Martinez-easy A, great discussions Just a little fyi for my new Spelbound sisters: On move-in day, try to be there as early as possible because even at an hour before there is a line down several streets near the school. If you can't come early, then I suggest coming as late as possible without going over the move-in time.
