A lot of people say it was a conspiracy...but also it was NYC and there are a lot of tourist so someone was bound to have a camera...plus after the first plane hit then all the news cameras were there for the second plane.

9-11 was live because air traffic control saw those planes off course and declared emergency. Since NYC is the media capital of America, SOMEbody was bound to have some "hot" cameras (also known as 'live' cameras) available. Most, if not all TV stations in America have these 24-7 live overlook cameras (some call them SkyCam 2, or Channel X Towercam...yadda yadda), not to mention that this happened around the morning rush hour, when local TV stations are in close communication with police.
My guess is when air traffic control notified the police & the military about the off-course planes, the cops then relayed the info to the media, and there you have it.
