Yes, if you are in the College of Arts and Sciences, it is a requirement that you take swimming as one of your PE courses. I believe the only way around that is if you test out of it (meaning u know how to swim already) or if you decide to take it during the summer at a JC (but u might need to check and see if the course is HU will approve it first). One of the many reasons why my major is in the School of Communications

No, that person did not make a mistake. It is a requirement! As a matter of fact we have to take 4 PE courses which include: swimming, health and 2 activities. I'm about to be a senior and I still haven't enrolled in a swimming course...lol. I will next year though (well I really don't have a choice) Oh and good luck trying to get out of it..lol The only way you won't have to take swimming is if you have a medical condition that prevents you from swimming confirmed by your doctor or you switch out of Arts & Sciences. If you do decide to stay and take swimming, trust me, you won't be the only one who doesn't know how to swim. I think that is one of the main reasons why they make us take swimming. They have a beginners level swimming course.

**** Yea, I found out from my friend who is a freshmen at Howard, that swimming was required. You should've seen the expression on my face. It was a lot like this ------> :o I will be the first to admit..I cannot swim to save my life. You might as well let me sink like the Titantic. I guess there is a first thing for everything, but I am going to look like a fool a-splishing and uh-splashing all over the damn place.
