Could ya'll tell me a lil more info about the dorms on campus? I know Freshmen stay in, I think HH, Abbey and LL2?? Is that right? I'm sending off my deposit and am curious about which dorm is the best living-wise. Are they getting renovated soon?

Well here goes with Dear ole Spelman. The dorms are the same why they were when Harriet Giles and Sophia Packard first made the school. The freshman dorms are HH, Manley, Abby, and LLCI. You can only stay in LLCI if you are in the honors program. I chose to stay in Abby because it was the smallest but its a matter of preference. HH and Manley are large so its a different scene. But in all of the freshmen dorms except LLCI there is NO AIR so bring a fan. Good luck.....

I hear HH is the dorm to be....YES? And when do you receive information about the Honors Program?

I also heard HH was the dorm to be in.....that's why I asked. How are the dorms set up with 4 Roommates? I looked at the safety report thing for Spelman, and basically it shows like zero crime. But Pimptight you're saying they do have break ins?

Well Spelman must not consider breaking into dorm rooms during X-mas break to be a "Crime". Cuz I know it happend to my roomate's g/f during her Freshman year. The 4 roommate thing is b/c Spelman, in their infinitesimal wisdom combines two rooms by placing a door between them. 3 on one side 2 on the other "Well two rooms aren't that bad" Yes they are, when neither room is barely big enough for two people.

Well I think Abby is the best dorm but I'm bias of course :rolls eyes: You probably heard that because HH is the biggest dorm. HH and Manley each have about 200 girls and Abby has 125. All of the rooms will be pretty small (its a dorm) but I chose to have less people and bigger hallways over 200 girls. But its your call... Good luck ladies And for the record, I have 2 roomates and this used to be a 2 girl room last year. We made it work and so can you.

Spelman residence halls aren't due for renovation until about fall 2007. I currently live in Manley hall which is the second largest freshmen residence hall. The rooms aren't that big, but you will survive. Abby has the largest rooms, but you have a bigger chance of having multiple roommates. Good luck with your decision!

The four freshman dorms are ABBY, MANLEY, HOWARD-HARRELD, and LLC 1. Each dorm has it's own dynamic, and it's own reasons. Abby's residents are usually closer, as the dorm has a **** feel. HH girls are known for being kinda...wild. LLC I is kind of known as the nerd dorm because it USED to be the honors dorm, but they've been doing it up this year. You learn about the honors program when you receive your admissions materials, or shortly thereafter. You used to have to apply, but I think you are considered along with your app now. Please don't try to get into the honors program just to stay in LLC I because it has air; living without air is not unbearable, and like I said before, each dorm has it's own dynamic. The numbers in the dorms: HH = 181 (6 upperclass RAs) Manley = 131 (6 RAs) Abby = 126 (6 RAs) LLC I = 200 overall; about 1/3 of these are upperclassmen (including 6 RAs), so we'll say 120-130 freshman You do not have to be in the honors program to live in LLC I as of the 2005-2006 school year, and if you are in the honors program, you do not have to live in LLC I. Spelman does basically have zero crime, as Public Safety is on point 24-7. It is not considered a crime to get your stuff during X-Mas break, although you are not supposed to. If you work something out with your Resident Director and get a note you will be allowed back on campus. People do not break into your stuff during Christmas break, that is a weird rumor. And I don't know where you heard you have to pay for your phone bill...because we don't. It's included in housing. I've had friends who stayed in triples and quads, and they were NOT formed by combining two rooms. The larger rooms in Abby are specifically made to house three and four young ladies; the quads in Manley are huge, as they were originally meeting rooms. And yes, the dorms aren't planned for renovation until sometime in 2008-2009. They are building a new dorm in 2007, but it will be an upperclassman dorm.

Thanks for the information. I wanted to be in the honors program, but I haven't received any information so far. I guess I should just be happy with being accepted into Spelman. Also, for incoming freshwomen, have you tried the link for your housing assignment? Maybe I am typing it wrong somewhere, but it is not working for me. Could you help me possibly? FINALLY, Could any upperclassmen tell me what they know about the Morehouse Cheerleading Squad. Qualifications, etc....I think I want to try out....Thanks ladies! I hope to see everyone at SPELBOUND!

Brittany, I tried that princess.spelman.edu..... link as well and it didn't work. I'm going to call the Spelman Residence office to see what's up.
