Hmmm...I agree with Truth for the most part, I think i'll just make a few slight adjustments. I think what you bring is dependent upon where you will be living. I think it is also dependent on where you are coming from. If you are a driving distance away, you might be able to get away with bringing a lil more in a vehicle. However, for someone like me who had to fly across the country, a chunk of my stuff was shipped ahead of time. However, keep in mind that alot of things you can just purchase at a local Target when u get here (if you have access to a car). I think it's a good idea to get a feel for the room and your roomate(s) and see what works for u guys in your space. K...here are my lil adjustments...
>If you will be in the Quad in either Wheatley, Frazier, or Baldwin, a fan or portable AC would certainly be recommended. However, since Truth, Crandall, and the Annex have AC, I think sumthin like that really isn't a necessity and may just be taking up space.
>For ladies in the Quad, toilet paper and hand soap isn't really a necessity either. They have housekeeping who comes to the bathrooms and stocks it up with toilet paper and puts soap in the soap dispensers. However, if u wanna be on the safe side, it's ok to have your own back up.
>Although it's on Truth's "do not bring" list, i'd recommend a mini fridge. I wasn't a big fan of the cafe, so snacks kinda got my thru freshman year. It isn't a total necessity, but I know i'm certainly someone who wakes up in the middle of the night and needs a lil sumthin to drink or nibble on. Paying to use the vending machines every night can add up. The only people that I wouldn't recommend a fridge for are the young ladies who will be staying in Truth or Crandall. You guys just don't have enough room, so every little bit of space counts. I honestly don't know where a fridge would fit in those rooms, but hey...some folks are good strategizers, maybe it could work.
>I'd also add a computer to that list. My freshman year I did not have a computer, and if you're a procrastinator like me...not having one could really suck for you lol. There is a 24 hour computer lab on campus and I believe they have gotten a lil better about the hours on the one in the Quad, but I still think that having your own can definately be a needed convenience.

K, with all of that said, let me go ahead it get this out of the way now lol. People, please...I BEG of you, do NOT bring your whole room (or house) to HU. I have helped with freshman move in every year, and each time, there is ALWAYS someone who has so much stuff that they don't even know what to do with it all. One girl brought a whole Uhaul. That is NOT necessary for a freshman.
*Pack smart. Pack only what you need. I know you're thinking HU is a fashion school and you'll need to stunt, but do NOT bring every outfit or shoe that you own. Trust, there are only select pieces that you'll end up wearing over and over again. I notice it everytime i see pics of myself on facebook lol.
*Keep in mind that you will only be living in that room for a few months. And trust me, you will hate yourself when it's time to pack all of that stuff up on your own. Each year, i've had to move from dorm to dorm, and I absolutely despise it. The longer you are here...the more things you accumulate. So if you start off with alot, imagine all of the junk you will have around you by the time you are a junior or senior.
So with that said, I have some summer cleaning to do lol
