Welcome to the forums cutie! Do you have any idea of what you want to major in once you get to school? Why Howard? As for your possible homesickness, you have quite a few HBCUs in NC to choose from...Bennett, NCCU, NC A&T, Johnson C Smith, Livingstone & WSSU. You might want to check them out also. Best wishes with your decision!

I will be glad to help you! Howard should be at the top of your list and REMAIN there. Dont worry about being homesick; once you become active and involved on campus you will completely forget that you left home! Any questions you have, just ask.

~I have no idea of what I want to major in. Im 100% sure that I want to be in the medical profession. I think I want to become a forensic scientist or forensic technician. Not sure though ~I dont know why I really choose Howard lol. I mean I started doing research on HBCUs and I noticed that Howard was at the top of everyone's list. I mean it is consider to be the "black howard." So why not choose Howard? ~I was also thinking about going to NC A&T or WSSU. But both of my sisters go to WSSU and I really dont want to go there. Its not a bad school its just that I want to break apart from my sisters. ~Stacey~

i can help with some of those questions any neighbor hood can be bad it is the city just be safe don't travel alone late at night just have common sense and you'll be fine for the car thing no and plus parking is limited u don't need a laptop but a lot of people on the howard forums have said it makes life a lot easier since u don't have to go by the computer labs schedule

Yes you can bring your car the only thing is that Howard does not provide Parking for freshmans so you make that decision...As for myself im a city girl so i have no problem with takin the bus and subway its kinda more convieniant if you ask me

I'm from NC as well.....and I am with you cutie. The thought of buses/subways isn't all that appealing since I'm used to just getting in a car and going, but I'd rather not have the extra burden of trying to keep up with a car my first year of school. I would really recommend investing a laptop though [for convenience purposes]

No. You only are required to take swimming if you are in the College of Arts and Sciences. School of Business, School of Communications, College of Engineering and Architecture, etc. do NOT have to take swimming. The neighborhood has its nice parts and bad parts. As a freshmen, I would not reccommend you walk by yourself at night until you are familiar with the surrounding area. You are NOT required to have a laptop because Howard campus has computer labs EVERYWHERE. But, it is a great luxury to have your own. You may bring a car your freshmen year but you do not get parking priviledges in the Howard University parking lots. You would have to park on the street and I know too many people who got tickets, boots and towed. Do it at your own risk lol.
