I really want to go to Howard because i want to major in political science. Im just nervous because I have only been around white people my whole life and I dont know if I would fit in? Also how are the dorms and nighlight? Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I'm guessing you're planning on taking the ACT again, or considering the SAT sometime in the near future. I believe a 22 on the ACT is needed for entrace though. Just get on ya grind and get prepared for it again Anything else you need to know will probably get answered by TRUTH if he feels up to it lol HTH

From what I hear, of course the dorms are not so hot (that's at most HBCUs though), but what matters the most is the fact that they are good enough to live in. And the nightlife = Crazy. There is always some kind of party going on, especially since the school is located in a very urban area like DC. Clubs, hous parties, etc.

Um... As far as the "being around all white people" thing goes... I say that you won't be the only one who has been in that situation. I currently go to an all white school, and I am seriously considering going to Clark Atlanta... But you do have to realize that you won't be friends with EVERYONE...soo it's important to find people who you feel comfortable around...and believe you me...you'll gravitate to people who are like you.

I would highly recommend attending a HBCU. It is an experience of a lifetime. As far as fitting in, I would not worry about it. From my experience, most students that attend HBCUs are from non-black high schools. Trust me, when you get to Howard, I am confident they will take care of you. Good Luck!

Hey chelsey_nicole! I'm so glad that Howard University is on top of your list! There are alot of other students who went to Howard from other all white areas such as Kansas, Iowa, Connecticut and Seattle. Some adjusted just fine and some did not. Its all about your personality and how well you are able to move out of your comfort zone and mix and mingle with all types of people from various backgrounds. The dorms in my opinion are better than most HBCUs I've seen. The Annex, East Towers and Cook Hall are the best dorms. The nightlife is bananas!!! Now, on to more important things... ...Your GPA alone will definitely get you into Howard University if your recommendations, extra curricular activities and community service are all up to par also. However, because of your low ACT I can almost certainly say that you wont receive any scholarship money. Getting into college is great, but at the end of the day you need a way to FUND YOUR EDUCATION. College is NOT cheap. My advice: Take the ACT again! Good luck!
