Religion is the **** of the masses--Karl Marx

"Religion is the **** of the masses"--Karl Marx. My unfortunate Sociology professor mentioned it in a discussion during class. It got pretty heated. But after all the hubbub died down, it got me to thinking: does religion make us who we are, or is it the other way around? What do you think? (Even though I'm a Socialist and people say that's a step towards Communism, I still think Marx was just an emo before his time. This little adage further proves my point.:splat

Religion only makes you who you are if you let it make you that way.

PRAISE THE LORD!!! All that religion does is give people a excuse to do what they want to do. Religion is a word that is used loosely and people don't really realize what they are saying when they use that word. There are a lot of people that are full of religion that are on their way to HELL. Why, you ask??? Because they can't live right to save their soul. Some people use the word religion as if it's a status symbol. As if to say, "I can't be all bad because I go to church every Sunday." However, in actuality that doesn't mean anything because the devil goes to church everytime the doors are open. Religion can't make you anything because its just a title like Catholic, Protestant, Presbyterian, Buddism, Muslim...and so on and so forth. It's only Jesus that can make you somebody or even change the behavior of someone. Just going to church and reading your bible doesn't mean that you are saved or even going to heaven. You have to live a life like Jesus lived when he was on Earth. You have to believe that Jesus is the son of God and that he died for your sins. You have to love God with all that you have inside of you and be willing to keep him number one in your life. You have to totally summit yourself to the Lord. You also have to have the Holy Ghost, which alot of preachers are leaving out of their sermons. If you don't have God's spirit inside of you, you will not go to heaven. The Holy Ghost is your keeping power from doing wrong and it's your seal of salvation. By the way, don't believe in that, "once saved always saved" doctrine that has been going around, because there are going to be alot of people in Hell because of that thinking. Saved is as saved does...if you are not living a saved life than you are not saved!!!

Question: Is Karl Marx a Satanist simply because he said this quote? This was nothing more than a critique on Hegel's The Philosophy of Right. Besides, in my honest opinion and observation of just about EVERY religion, he had a plausible reason to believe this. And yet, you still didn't answer the question I proposed...*sigh*. I hate doin' this, but I'm just gonna assume that you believe that religion makes who are since apparently Satanists are philosophers.

Woah. That's alot to chew, ma'am. But that statement right there, the one that I put in bold...I can't pass that over. YOU believe that one is no one without Jesus. That's all well and good, but don't impose it others, which fundamentally, is what you're doing...

*sigh* All she said, was the same thing I said. She just applied a Christian belief to it. Calm down, pimpin.

Karl Marx had a point with this quote. Religion can make people do just about anything. Whether it be killing in the name of God, or going to a church picnic. Religion definitely plays a role in the human experience.
