Okay Now I am originally from DC and I love it to death! everything from the National Mall to the crackheads on the corner and it really doesnt scare me that Howard is in the "hood" (what HBCU isn't?) but my mom was recently up there visiting (we live in North Carolina now) and she came home the other day we started talkin about school stuff and whatnot and I mentioned Howard (like i always do) and she says: "Oh Lord, I dont know if i want u up there" me being me , i say: "Well whats wrong now, ma?" she acting like she didnt grow up there and live there for almost 20 somethin years she says : "I dont know its just in the heart of the hood... I would be scared for u all the time" and then exaggerating like she does "and I think I heard some gunshots too" now be that as it may is it really that serious? i mean i know not to walk alone... ever and not to walk around showin off expensive things like im the sh*t to be careful on the buses and subways (my dad works for metro up there) so somebody who knows let me know the real deal about Howard and its "surroundings" lol

It's the same in every urban area. I'm not trippin', I've been a nomad for a day in Watts, California and downtown Los Angeles... I'm always there hahaha

When we went on a tour of Howard I didn't think it was as dangerous as everybody made it seem I expected a lot worst. The surrounding area didn't seem to bad maybe we came on a good day or maybe I was half sleep lol

I did not attend Howard. However, I went there this weekend. I thought the surrounding area was cool. I dont think its that bad. It seems like a great university. Good Luck ladies!

^^^Sorry about that HBCUconnect family. I went to a conference in DC last week. Since I was in town, I decided to check out the Howard vs FAMU football game. I really enjoyed DC. Hopefully, I will visit again in the near future. I will let you know! Are you going to be in Atlanta for the ATL classic (TN State/FAMU)?

Howard is straight, so is the campus, i mean be courteous and dont walk with a stank tude, watch ur surroudings, always have ur cell charged and never carry large amounts of money. and the biggest: DONT TRAVEL ALONE AT NIGHT. thats pretty much it hope i helped
I agree and I stay in the roughest part of campus. Carver hall where most of the shootings and robbery happens. It's not that bad just be smart.
