Classist? An issue at top HBCU's

Ok so lately Howard has crept up on my list of schools that I'd like to attend. It went from #5 to #1.lol. BUT one thing I've heard from some current students and former students and some research is that there are class issues at Howard. As in the students split themselves up based upon family income level, sururbs vs. 'ghetto', how they dress etc. And as far as dating they also cling to people of similar classes. So basically I just wanted to know how true this is? Any details would be wonderful. This isn't going to change my mind about wanting to attend Howard because I can deal w/ it. I just want to know if it's true, and to what extent.

I don't think there is a formal survey to determine who is in what economic tax bracket but you can tell the division. Usually based upon how someone dresses. People with the best wardrobe are usually held to the highest esteem.

Idk! Maybe you could explain why this stereotype about Howard exist? It clearly didn't manifest itself if students who attend Howard or have previously attended Howard are the main ones I hear state this as a way of encouraging me to consider other schools. I wasn't looking for 3 word answers. I asked 'how true is this.' I already know it is slightly true I have been to Howard and observed some things myself. Like I said I'd like to know 'to what extent.'

I honestly dont know why the stereotype exists. Probably because Howard MAY HAVE been classist decades ago. But presently, no it's not.

lol...it's good that you are so observant, however, I was emersed in the Howard culture; I was a student there for four years. I intermixed with lots of people from all types of familial and financial backgrounds.

As a recent freshman...I can honestly say that it's not true. It might look that way but so far people group themselves on personalities.
