Okay, I've narrowed down my two top picks: Spelman and Howard University. At first I decided to major in English, then I realized i needed to know something about fashion if i wanted to be a fashion designer - duh.
So i checked spelman's site to see if they offered in fashion classes- they don't. BUT I heard of something called cross-registering, that they do in the AUC. That way, I could take fashion merchandising at Clark-Atlanta and still take english at spelman. If anyone can explain cross-registering to me that would be helpful. Like, exactly how does it work, would i get a B.A, in fashion merchandising from Clark and a B.A. in english from spelman?
OR
I could just go to Howard where they offer fashion merchandising AND english as majors. So could yall tell me more about Howard, cause i know everythang there is to know about spelman cause I've had my heart set on going there since i was in the 5th grade.

Howard does have both majors. Save yourself the headache of cross registering and come to the Mecca!
from my understanding of cross-registering, you will not get a b.a from both schools. I'm planning on cross registering in order to take photography at CAU. Unfortunately, the classes you take at another institution , for the most part, only go toward the electives part of the graduation requirement.
Well Spike Lee graduated from Morehouse but took majority of his classes at Clark Atlanta in order for him to major in Mass Media Arts. If you cross registered, you wouldnt receive a degree from Clark Atlanta, your degree would still come from Spelman College even if its a fashion degree.
Definitely go to Spelman...Im biased though. But cross registering doesnt allow you to get two different degrees from two different institutions, as stated above the degree would come from Spelman.

OMG I'm doing Fashion Design & Merchandising at Howard next year....so basically I'm biased towards the question because I think you should choose the REAL HU...lol
Spelman has an independent major option, maybe you should consider that if you really wanna attend school in the AUC.
If not, I'd say go to Howard. Good luck.

i've read so many reviews that say different things I'm skeptical that
Howard is really for me ...so I've been looking into spelman and I kno it will be a tough decision next year. Please help me out with some of the opinions I've heard. I'm looking for a school where I can get a well-rounded
experience not just preprofessional training and good
parties...an intellectual school where
people can learn from each other. in a review someone that goes there
said "The experience I've gotten from Howard has been inspiring yet
disappointing...a large segment of Howard students perpetuate Black
stereotypes. I've heard some opinions expressed in classes which have no
factual basis and are pretty ignorant and uninformed...The
preprofessionalism spills over to the mindset of the students. You
will find classmates asking 'What can you do with your degree?' rather
than 'What are you reading?'...I would say if you want classmates who
talk about texts outside of class
and who are passionate about human rights, you will feel out of place
because most of the people here are about fashion, dating, and money." Is this true? And do spelmanites ever get the feeling that they are just surrounded by too many females? Please help me!

I've been fighting with the same decision as you and I've heard some different opinions on both schools. I think the best thing we can do is visit the campuses, if possible. I plan to do so next year during my senior year, are you going to be a senior too?
