What Have You Learned...What Do U Want To Be? Posted on 06-26-2004
In Rod We Trust

Ight I dunno if this has been done/said so if it has my bad...but Ok for the upperclassmen....What did u learn from your first year of college that you will change in your second? What positivity has come out of your life so far because of your college experiance? What Negativity has come out of it...Have you changed from the person u were a year ago and if so how...and what do u want to change for your second year in college? And for the incoming freshmen.... What things do you really want to experiance your first year of college? What type of direction do u see yourself going? I'll answer my own question Im a underclassman....And 1 thing i do want 2 experiance is a serious relationship...usually i fight off relationships..and keep it platonic...but i want 2 see what its like to have a real real relationship...hopefully it will happen...maybe not my first year but sometime while im in college...but thats all i can think of right now

What have I learned? I learned that all these people u talk to in high school, very few will u talk to while u are away for school...yeah u may think yall gonna keep in contact, but it doesn't work like that I have also learned, from what my friends told me, and from what I have seen, that frienships end when u live together in college I have learned that no ones cafeteria food is good most of the time And I have learned that if u party a lot, it will get old after a while, trust

I learned that freshman year will always be the best and no other year will be able to top it. As a sophomore I know not to act a fool and run buck wild anymore. Parties every day close to the weekend do get old. Positivity that has come out of my life so far because of my college experience? hmmm what positive things......well I value quarters more :? Negative things are that now that I'm back home I can't wait to get the hell out....wait that could be a good thing I haven't changed one bit. I guess I'm more mature now but I mean who isn't. My second year of college is gonna be about the books. I am definitely gonna study harder and worry less about what's goin on outside.......yeah right i say that now but we all know how that goes Oh yeah I learned that in college, boys are just so chisty. They more hoes than girls are. Relationship?.....In college?.....Yeah right!!!! Sorry but from what I been around I can't trust NO boy or what he says.

hmmm...learned a lot more about journalism...the behind-the-scenes...the ins-&-outs...not too many people know about...that I wouldn't have ever known otherwise....and of course, my lessons and knowledge about people in general...have increased (i do know there's so much more yet to learn, tho)...i've met so many interesting individuals...& don't regret having met any of 'em (friends, professors, enemies, strangers, & all!)...because I know all of 'em have played vital roles in what I need to know about both the good and bad in life...who has my back...who doesn't...and just the outcome of who I am to become...generally-speaking...everyone i've ever met is relevant...& came into my life for a reason...

the fact that procrastination works for me so much as it does...really works against me...because I do know that those days of truth are coming...they may hit in grad school...may hit by the time i get into my career...but they're gonna hit, i can just FEEL it...& that is a BIG problem 'cause i ain't gonna be ready 4 it....like i said be4, it'z soooooooooo haaaaaarrrrrrrd to quiiiiiiiiiiitttt    lol

hmm...good question...well...i know i've grown a lot mentally...shoot, even emotionally....i'm not the same damn near naive little girl i was in hs....my eyes are way more open now...tryin' to see what's in front of me, what's in the cut, & what's in back of me, all at the same time, all the while still moving forward steadily...ain't easy...but cha got to...especially living in this type of world.... i'm definitely a lot more open now...waaaaaaaaaay more sarcastic, lol (particularly if it's deserved...that's another thing - i've learned now to control the sarcasm)....overall, i'm happy with who i've become right now...still a whole lot of kinks & cracks to be worked out, of course, but...who doesn't? oh, & thanks 4 this, TAB...didn't realize how much i needed that self-evaluation

As a graduating senior of the CLASS OF 2005! ((stand up!)) I can say that I have learned a LOT during my undergrad tenure. I had a LOT of great experiences and the people I have met will be sorely missed. I get teary-eyed just thinking about it! But for all the good times there were bad ones. There's only a couple of things I would've done differently but they weren't any life-altering events, or at least I didn't ALLOW them to be. The only advice I can give to all you incoming frosh is to make the best of everything<---even the bad times! If you do not get the best out of your institution then it's YOUR FAULT; if you do not have fun in college then it's YOUR FAULT. If you make the best out of your institution then it's YOUR FAULT. If you have fun during college then it's YOUR FAULT  Yall get my drift. Also follow your heart. All my professors have been trying to talk me into going to law school. When I told them I wanted to be a high school couselor to encourage more kids to go to college, they said I was wasting talent. Oh well, I am following my heart. Youngins: DO NOT let anyone diverge you from the path you have set to achieve your goals. This includes boyfriends, girlfriends, best friends, professors, parents<---actually ALL FAMILY members, etc. All that glitters aint gold. We've heard it before; well take heed! When in doubt, get out! This means schools, relationships, etc. These last three years have been some of the best of my life and I plan to make more good memories for grad school next year. Sorry I wrote yall an essay but I hope ya get the point

What did u learn from your first year of college that you will change in your second?
I learned that as much as i LOVE being in college and the fact that I attend a black college makes it 10x better, that regardless of how much fun I am having...EDUCATION COMES FIRST. Yeah everybody knows that, hell I knew it too...but I didnt act like it my first semester. WHen you got so much free time and nobody to answer too, you would be surprised how easily you can allow your social life to take priority over the academics without realizing. I did my work and whatnot, turned my assignements in on time, but I wasnt working too my full potential, and I wasnt studying enough. And it showed in my GPA. Thats why I am working extra hard to get it to where I want and need it to be. By the second time spring semester rolled around, I had improved much more...but Im still having to work extra hard cause Im still pullin for that 3.5 gpa that I havent gotten to yet. On top of that, I have learned from my freshmen year that n*ggas aint sh*t. Dont get me wrong, I have met some and had relations with some cool **** dudes, but alotta guys only look at you as the FRESHMEAT, so you dont wanna fall into that trap of being used by guys who seem sincere as hell, but only wants the p*ssy.

Alot of positive things have come out of my life since attending FAMU. I have met some great friends, that I know I will be friends with until forever..lol...I have become much more indepedent going to school all the way down south by myself not having any family or friends down there. I had to meet and adjust to a new culture which was DEFINITELY A CULTURE SHOCK and I enjoyed ever minute of it. And then of course enjoying the whole " black college experience. " There are times when I say I hate FAMU for stupid reasons( like how long the financial aid line is ), but there is honestly no where else I would want to be. I just know my college experience wouldnt be as great as it is if I were somewhere else.

The negatives: There were definitely a few. I changed from the person I was cause when I got to college I got real wild ( almost in a self destructive kinda way ). I was just doing alotta things that were outta character for me, and I knew I shouldnt have been doing but was just trying to let loose I guess you can say. Among alotta things I was doing, I guess one of the big things I was doing ALOT that I had to stop cause it was becoming ridiculous was my drinking. FIrst semester, I had gotten **** a few times...but by the time January rolled around and it was second semester I was getting **** off my **** EVERY WEEKEND no exaggeration. Outta me and my 3 other roommates we drank equally, but I was the one that always went overboard and would get " f*cked up " cause we always had bottles of alcohol in our apartment, or go to parties and get really messed up. I guess the turning point in that for me was the fact that I had gotten so **** one Saturday nite with a bad hangover that I couldnt even get up for chruch the next morning which is REALLY sad. Also when I saw pictures of me and how I looked **** and how I was acting it was embarrassing. So after that I said I would drink, but never to that point again. For this coming year, I just wanna become more focused as a person on the things that are important:God, school and my relationships with people. Im trying to break some of my old ways, to be the person that I use to be. Alitte side note... For all you incoming freshmen: FRESHMEN YEAR IS THE BEST YEAR :!: :!: :!: Take advantage of everything it offers. Freshmen year for me went by entirely WAY TOO FAST. I had soooo much fun. Whatever you do this year, just make sure you are safe about it.
