I'm currently enrolled in the college of Engineering, Architecture, and Computer Science, since i listed my major as Systems and Computer Science on my application. Seeing as I suck horribly at math, I've since changed my mind and decided to major in history and english, which are both in the college of arts and sciences, which works out well because i qualify for the coas honors program. Problem is, the people in admissions tell me that i can't change my major until next year!!! Huh??? I haven't even registered for classes yet! Does this make since? So I'm wondering, does anyone know who i can call or e-mail to get this straightened out. I've talked to both schools and the honors program to no avail. What should i do next?

It is true....you cant "formally" change or declare your major until your sophomore year. A lot of people get to HU and decide that they want to change their majors. Some people even come in undecided and change their major later....After your first semester you can change majors. That won't affect what classes you can take though. Technically, you can take any (undergraduate) class that you want to take at the university. For your sake, and so that you wont take pointless classes, i would do this.....
 Look at the scheme for both History and English
 Look for classes that satisfy both majors.....These usually include English, Math, Freshman Seminar, Foreign Language, and Divisional courses.
 From that you should be able to pick your schedule.
 I would further try to ask to speak w/ someone in Advisory center for COAS. They might be able to assist you better w/ what to do as far as what classes you should take.
 You shouldn't have a major problem when you get here and im sure its easy to straighten out.

VERY WELL PUT!!!
Just to second it, Dont worry to much about it. I had the same problem I came in Howard as an Accounting major in the School of B, Then had a change of heart so I am following the PR scheme, but my major wont be declared as PR until I return to school some time this fall.
