let's see.. my fafsa gave me 2500 dollars thru work study, but i was just wondering how does it work, exactly... did anybody do work study their freshman year and how did yall get paid... im tryna to have some money on the side and if im able to work a little bit and still do well in school im all for it. but i was just wondering if anyone was able to give out some info .. oh ok i did work study last year, working in cook hall in the football and soccer offices...umm i got 5000 for the entire year, 2500 a semester...but then i got too much money and they cut me off last semester, thats another story cause it seems you get penalized for too many grants and schollys :roll: ...typically freshman get 9 bucks an hour, and the max ya can work per week is 20-25 hours, its really pretty flexible especially if you may have to get off early to freshen up on an exam or something...i say youll get that entire 2500 within first semester so ya may need to try to find something off campus second semester...they pay every 2 weeks...the first 2 weeks ya work ya dont get anything but then after 4 weeks ya get your first 2 weeks pay from before, and it continues on like that...oh yeah they dont "assign" ya work ya choose what ya want from this huge employment booklet what you feel you are best at so dont worry about getting some stupid job ya wont like...just on the first days of school go to the i think the basement of the A building and when ya get off the elevator make a left to the student employment office and they'll help you out further in filling out the proper paperwork/tax forms etc.

THAT DOESN'T SEEM FAIR. I WENT BACK AND LOOKED AT MY FIN. AID SHEET AND I WAS AWARDED 5000 A YEAR/ 2500 A SEMESTER...I'LL BE DAMNED IF THEY TRY TO CUT ME OFF.. FA REAL. ARE YOU GING TO DO WORK STUDY AGAIN THIS UPCOMING YEAR?
Its more of a first come first serve thing. I did work-study last semester also and it was cool. I didn't use near as much as they gave which was the same as you 5000 for the year. I started working in Oct. though. Its funny cause I wanted to work in the athletic building too :lol: My cousin worked there last semester and I worked in the School of C. Anywayz they have these books with all the available jobs or whatever and as the work-study students come in and chose they start to remove positions thats are filled. So if you come late (In october like myself) you just have to sort of choose from whats left ya know
whats so hot about working in the athletic building....is it the spot to work or what.. let a sistah know, so i can make my way down there ASAP.
lol its a cushy job basically, i mean i typed a few papers, answered a few calls, copied and faxed some papers, but lol i did so little for the 9 bucks an hour i was getting it was hilarious...oh yeah they cut me off because i have 2 scholarships, one from howard one from bill gates millenium scholarship foundation and like i received too much money that went over my cost of attendance, so they cut my work study off and reduced my refund check lol spring semester...a sistah was broker than a mug then, so i learned my lesson and wont be doing work study na'an again, as long as youre below cost of attendance youll be fine
p.s-inferno i dont think ya cant do work study if they didnt assign it, heck they didnt assign me work study lol this year and most of the people who worked last year didnt get it either so im wondering what is seriously up this year...but what you could do is this program called i think DC first, ya tutor DC kids, ya dont need work study but ya get paid 9 bucks an hour and its a pretty good job...my floormate and roommate did it for a bit...they liked it lol...just go by the office and check up on stuff they might have
