I was accepted to my dream school, Fisk University about two weeks ago. I am very excited because I worked very hard to get my a** in this school. Now I need help from my fellow Fiskites to let me know what I should expect from Fisk my freshmen year and the years to come. 8)
P.S. I need all the information that anyone can give me, so if you are a
student of Fisk, don't be afraid to let me anything, because I am one of you all now.
Spread Love 8)
NASDAQ_J you made some very good points. I don't think a lot of folks are hating on State, with the exception of a few ill-informed. At the end of the day, we are all AFRICAN-AMERICANS in pursuit of an education and that is to be commended.
If it appears that we take ourselves seriously its because we very often feel that others don't understand how important it is to constantly recognize that we all stand on someone else's shoulders. That's why we harp on our history so much...because we appreciate the fact that we didn't get here alone.
To respond to LadyASU, it IS important that we visit our respective institutions. Rest assured that we do enjoy ourselves, but perhaps not in a way that was suitable for you. College tours allow us to see the similarities and differences in our HBCUs. In other words, different strokes for different folks...
@Nasdaq:
The person who started this thread asked about Fisk and one of your fellow classmates took time out of his day to talk down on my ALMA MATER.
Your statistics were quite interesting yet WHITE STUDENTS still go to school free while you have to take out loans, etc.
I wont debate with you any longer because obviously, Fisk is great because you took time out of your "busy" day to dog us. Take care.
First off, I would like to show love to FiskLady and InsideFisk for showing love for their school. It couldn't be done a better way. Secondly, I would like to really thank InsideFisk for giving me so much information on my future school. Thirdly, I have visited Fisk two times and I love it to death. Nothing anyone say's on this message board will change that. To InsideFisk, keep on giving info on Fisk, if anything comes to your mind, just post it.
Oh, to InsideFisk: Can you please give me certain to do's and not to do's for my freshmen year. You've been there long enough to see how every freshmen acts their first year of college. As being a young black female, I will be faced with so many challenges. Give me some advice, if you can.
P.S. To all my future Fiskites, don't let anybody stop you from speaking your mind. 8)
InsideFISK...who are you? I wish you'd sign in!!! You are doing a bangin job reppin our alma mater....you speak much truth.
To all of my future FISKites...you guys need to join too!!! Get an account on the cafe so you can post pics and PM each other. I want to meet some of you guys!!

That is the problem with BLACK FOLKS NOW....That pretentious attitude......You are so snobby.....I feel sorry for you, your attitude is why TSU talks about Fisk...I try to extend an olive brance and your stuck up **** wanna act brand new.....
F you and whack **** Fisk.....
You are probably **** anyway.....Fat **** h*e
If you had some friends, your attitude would be better.....
P.S.- I did not have to take out any loans....My parents paid for my education.....As for Fisk and their 73% financial aid rate.....
You are the quen- essential Fisk alum.
You actin' all funny......
Go and look for your blackness.....
This qoute is aimed at "FiskLady".......I still have love for Fisk, but not your rep. on this board...
I hope you dont rep your family with that **** attitude.....
First of all, let me say that that was me who posted the most recent reply listed under "Guest". I was so anxious to respond that I forgot to give my screen alias, LOL!
Endless Treasure, next fall I will reveal myself to you but not before then :-). In the meantime, continue to represent FISK with class and style. I've seen you on campus and we've even had a conversation or two, but my mystery on here allows me to be completely objective...
NASDAQ_J, please try not to repond when you're upset. To call someone out of their name and make personal attacks reveals only immaturity and DOES NOT represent my father's alma mater (TSU) very well at all.
FISKLady, your emotions seem to get the best of you when faced with triflin' comments. Just walk away from the computer, my sister, WALK AWAY :-)
Lil C', I will continue to post information at your request as I want you to represent FISK, your family, and your people WELL once you arrive on campus.
I'll be back later with the female DO's and DON'Ts you requested...
I JUST LOVE THIS INFORMATION...I MAY HAVE TO COME TO VISIT FISK. TO MY HONEST FISK WAS NOT FIRST PICK BUT I'M BEEN DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE SCHOOL AND I MUST SAY I AM VERY IMPRESSED.
The world-renowned, Grammy-nominated FISK Jubilee Singers just received a 2004 Dove Award for Traditional Gospel Recording. The song that was selected was “Poor Man Lazarus” from their most recent recording “In Bright Mansions”. The Dove Award is the gospel music industry equivalent to the Grammy awards for musical excellence.
Students become Jubilee Singers through an arduous audition process that demonstrates their individual vocal prowess and the depth of knowledge of the Jubilee Singers legacy. Another fine opportunity to learn more about that legacy is provided through the tome “Dark Midnight When I Rise” by Andrew J. Ward. “Dark Midnight” is an in-depth chronicle of how a motley band of FISK students not only turned around an institution but allowed the African experience in America to be widely showcased through song.
A Jubilee Singers performance is surely something to behold and once again this fall, they will be touring the United States after summer performances in Europe and the Bahamas. Visit the University website, www.fisk.edu, for updates on when the Jubilee Singers might be coming to a venue near your home.
This should give busybodies some clue as to who I am :-)...
