WELCOME TO HOWARD UNIVERSITY!!!!

This Question and Answer thread was developed to answer ANY and EVERY inquiry from those who have officially selected Howard University as their place for academic growth! And for those who are still undecided about where you will be in the fall, hopefully this thread will help you lean towards furthering your education at HU Clap

If you have any questions pertaining to Howard University, registration, athletics, Greek life, campus life, Homecoming, Washington, DC, clubs, shopping malls, classes, majors, minors, roomates, etc. DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK QUESTIONS! Although Howard alumni and students are not experts in all areas of college life, we will try our best to answer your questions directly and in a timely manner. Thumbup1

Soo i need help! I got accepted to hu like way back in december...and i just got my financial aide package back the 2nd week in june. Ive been on vacation all summer and am now coming to the realization that i probably wont be able to go to hu cause all they offered me was a 3500 grant and a 20000 parent loan which my parents wont take. I cant get a private student loan either cause i dont have a cosigner soo i really dont know what to do now!

Do a search on high interest, little to no credit loan. They do have them but make sure you read the fine print. There are companies out there that do prey on college students in your situation but there are also companies that do understand. In the case of this loan, you won't need a co-signer. The amount allowed may be smaller but anything will help. Because of the stipulations on some of these loans, I say be careful or not do them. On the other hand, see if you can get another family member to co-sign and explain that there are no payments due until 6 months after you graduate. They will only be required to pay if you default or fail to pay. Smile

Also, check with your perspective school (School of Business, School of Communications, Arts & Sciences, etc.) and see if they have any scholarships for people in your major/field. Ask about the work study program! Go on the internet and see if you can google some scholarships. Lots of students miss out because they dont think outside the box and do enough research. Church's, non-profit organizations and big businesses all give scholarships. Maybe you should look into other options such as the ROTC...they have scholarships, but I'm not sure of the restrictions. Do you play sports? If so you should consider maybe being a walk-on....athletes get scholarships too. And just a quick FYI: the marching band would love to have you participate this fall! And I believe there might still be some scholarships available Thumbup

Aight I have a question... Move In Day...the sixteenth Like, exactly what happens? Do we HAVE to be there at 8 AM? B/C its a long drive from here to there, and I don't know many people willing to get up very early, help pack my things, then have the energy for a 3 hour drive. Do we go to our residence halls first, or to another building, or something? Another thing, I haven't registered yet, because I have a medical hold, so can I register that day? And do we have to attend everything that week? Sorry 4 all the questions lol
