Have You Watched Boomerang? Posted on 05-31-2007
C Nels

Everyone has a reason why they wear what they wear, so who do you dress for? For the haters/other ladies? For the fellas? For yourself? Do you find yourself having to spend outside of your means to keep yourself up? (ie. I shouldn't use my card on these shoes, but I GOTTA have em for the party this weekend!!) Speak up ladies!

PRAISE THE LORD!!! I only wear pants once a year and that's when my church has it's annual jubilee run and competition. I can't run, shoot hoops, or do an obsticle course in my skirt. (I could...but it would be a very interesting sight. LOL) If it's real cold in the winter I will wear pants under my skirts, but that's rare. I don't just wear skirts because I am saved, but because it makes me feel more like a WOMAN OF GOD!!! I don't believe that pants should be worn in the sanctuary, but I wouldn't knock someone that wore them. The Lord is the only one that can judge or change people, just like he changed me. See, all my pants were tight fitting, because I loved showing off my shape. I loved the attention I got behind it. When I got saved, I didn't feel right wearing pants anymore because I no longer had a seductive mentality. So, for me it wasn't the pants/jeans/slacks that was a problem, it was the person that I was when I wore them. Now when I wear my dresses/skirts my head is up even higher, because I still look good and I'm not giving out the wrong impression. Now when I dress I'm not trying to get the attention of every guy that I come in contact with. Actually, it seems like I get more compliments now than I ever did...who would have guessed that.?! Just because a person wears dresses/skirts all the time doesn't make them saved. They can still be on the road to destruction, just like anyone else. We look at the outter man & God looks at the inner man...so, if you aint right it doesn't matter what you wear, you can still go to hell!
Well, I do agree with you when you said that God looks at the issues of the heart and not the outward appearance. Yet,I don't think there is anything wrong with a Christian wearing blue jeans, slacks, etc. I am a Holy Ghost filled woman of God and I love me some cute blue jeans or nice slacks and I don't wear them in a seductive manner either. Even at my church, which is a non-denominational church people wear slacks or pants suits to church. People look presentable in their pants suits and I don't see anything wrong with that. I assume Sister Tamara that you must be pentecostal. A lot of pentecostals believe that people are going to hell because they wear pants or wear make-up. Which is so very far from the truth. Like you said Tamara, there are a lot pentecostal girls running around with skirts on but still doing things that aren't pleasing in God's sight. The no pants and make-up is not the issue that pentecostal's should be focusing on, but it is the issue of what these people are doing in their daily lives. There are a lot of pentecostal girls that have the skirts on and have their belly stuck out pregnant. So obviously wearing a big long skirt down to the knees in a non-seductive manner isn't helping if they are dropping their draws! (No offense) So the point I'm trying to get across is that focusing on the outward stuff isn't important but the inward man of the heart is the most important. I love me some make-up and clothes. Jeans, slacks, etc. God loves me enough to give me the gift of applying make-up! Yeah, God looks at the inward appearance, but a MAN looks at the outward appearance. HA HA A preacher once told this joke! So I'm sure my future husband is going to like my make-up wearing and blue jean wearing ways! LOL Another joke pastor Creflo Dollar stated: "God said that you should avoid all appearances of sin and that means don't walk around looking like hell has walked through your doors without no make-up on! Ha Ha That joke was too hilarious! God did make everyone beautifully and wonderfully made, but your beauty can be enhanced with some make-up.

I think the guy Cnels changed the topic after he wasn't getting any responses but he didn't change the name of the thread. I guess that is what happened! I started talking about other stuff.. about the pentecostals believing in folks not wearing make-up or jeans. I don't know why I took it down that path! LOL

PRAISE THE LORD!!! I don't know if this was the intention of the thread, but I'm glad that it has went the way it has. I don't emphasize my denomination, because my belief is not in that. My belief is in the word of God and living Holy. I was not speaking for anyone but MYSELF when I said that I don't wear pants. That is MY preference. There are people in my church that are truly sanctified and holy that wear pants, and I don't knock them. That's why I gave my own personal testimony about ME wearing/not wearing pants. I don't knock anyone for wearing make-up. I just say, "if you're going to wear it don't over do it." I personally don't wear make-up either. It's not because of my denomination either, it's because I don't feel I need it, but once again that's just me.

Well, okay everyone has their preference. I was wondering because I have heard a lot of pentecostal women talk along the lines of what you said. So I was just wondering if all pentecostals believed that. Anyway, you can dress however you want to because that makes you a unique individual. Just make sure you aren't going on what someone else told you, make sure it is YOUR personal preference. One thing about Religion it will put you in a box. God HATES religion! God wants a RELATIONSHIP! Not one time in the Bible did God say that women shouldn't wear make-up or pants. So if it is your personal preference not to wear pants or make-up that is fine, but make sure it is not based on what some religious people told you. That is all I was saying. Alright, take care.

Pretty much that's what happened. I did try to change the name of the thread but once you've submitted it, it seems that you can only edit the 'title' and not the thread name. Most of you probably haven't noticed but I tried to switch it to "Who Do You Dress For?" ....but anywho, keep posting ladies!

lol Naw, not that channel(though I wish I had it). The thread title went along with the original question I posted. It referenced the Eddie Murphy movie "Boomerang".

Yeah, that's pretty much what I gathered when I read your post. Because I noticed how you referenced the woman that you were when you wore those jeans, and how you now consider yourself as a different individual. And I totally agree about how you have to do what is best for you and your relationship with God. I believe that everyone's journey is an individual one, and we can all take/not take different things. Someone can sit through a rated R movie and not feel inclined to fornicate when they leave. Someone else might see certain imagines and feel lustful and tempted. One person can have a glass of wine and be perfectly fine. However, a recovering alchoholic may not want to be around liquior of any kind. So I totally understand where you are coming from with the jeans thing. Although I do wear jeans, and can get a lil artistic with my make up at times lol, I can't say that I think/do some of the things that I used to when I wasn't fully devoted to God (so i totally feel u). And yes, I do come from a pentecostal background (Church of God in Christ to be exact), and no doubt there was a time when COGIC was quite strict (no pants, makeup, sleeveless apparell, flamboyant hair/nails, skirts a lil too far above the knee, etc.), but I can certainly say that is not the case across the board...ESPECIALLY in this day in age. What a preacher, pastor, or church mother says has no bearing on my personal relationship with God and my own spiritual journey. All of the choices and decisions that I make are according to my own prayer life. I can say that these days I am way more spiritual, not religious.

PRAISE THE LORD!!! Thanks for the response ladies... I try to make sure what I am saying is clear, because I don't want to give room for any misunderstandings. "I JUST HAVE TO BE THE PERSON GOD HAS CALLED ME TO BE!!!" No matter what I say or what I do, I try to make sure that I'm pleasing God. If God is pleased than I am pleased. I left pleasing people alone when I got saved. I don't let people influence me one way or another, because listening to people (especially the wrong people) will send you to hell. Which I don't plan on going. I am influenced by the Holy Ghost which lets me know what is right or wrong for ME! In the bible it talks about grieving God. I would rather make everybody on Earth hate me than to grieve God. After I get dressed and I look at myself in the mirror, I ask myself am I representing God. I'm not thinking about anyone else. That's why I say everything that I do, "I do it unto the Lord!" He is the only one that has a Heaven or Hell to put me in, so his thoughts of me are all that matter. Everybody has different reasons why they do the things that they do. Now you know mine!!!
