What is it that an educated black women of the 21st century want in a man. Is the thugs still in or are the educated brothers making a comeback on our black college campuses?
Although I am not a college student yet I believe that any self respecting college woman above any other qualities (besides being pleasing to the eye, practicing excellent hygiene and at least having enough sense to hold an intelligent convo) is respect regaurdless of the young man being a **** or an educated black man because many girls will say yeah im tired of them thugish @$$ dudes and try out a "educated black man" and they end up being a total dissapointment the only difference in the two is the fact that one graduated from college and holds a degree but at the same time an educated black man can very well be ...worse...than a so called **** it all depends on the inner person and what that specific woman yearns for and what she values and what she personally yearns for in a man.... so there thats my lil 2 cents.
exactly. Just because a man is college educated, doesn't mean he will treat you right...nor does it mean he is the man for you. I know plenty of men with a degree, or pursuing one, that treat women worse than i've seen some "thugs" treat women. I often hear the "girls only want thugs" line from men, but I can't say i've ever been asked out by a Howard dude. But guess what? A **** will probably holla in a second lol. And that's how it is on alot of campuses. The ratios usually work in the favor of men. So alot of women have no other choice but to explore other options off of campus. Becuz if it was up to me just finding a man while i'm at Howard, i'd probably be single for the rest of my life lol

I want a Man who is secure with himself, respectful, ambitious, intelligent, caring,strong and assertive (doesn't let me run over him becuz i will if he does), able to provide/take constructive criticism
I actually prefer a combination of both. A man who can hold an intelligent conversation and speak intellectually about a particular topic, but at the same time he can't be no *****, lol. He needs to be able to hold his own and protect my honor as well if necessary. I guess I'm lookin for an urban renaissance man.
Yall just remember this. A man will take care of him and his own.....U have to take care of a ****.
[well...that's debatable lol. The validity of that statement is dependent upon what one would classify as a "man" and what one would classify as a "****". It is also dependent upon the upon the actions of said "man" and "****". For example, there are plenty of guys who are grown, have legitimate jobs, decent credit, and haven't broken too many laws within their lifetime. So they would be called "men" would they not? HOWEVER, those same "men" have children that they are not there for and/or offering financial/emotional/and mental assistance to the single mothers that they helped to create the child/children with. The point? Just because a man isn't a ****, doesn't mean that he is automatically going to treat a woman right.
Don't get me wrong, i'm not defending men who commit crime for a living lol. I just like to play devil's advocate sometimes. Carry on...

I think there is a place for both type of guys. There are always women who'll want the **** but then again, there are those who will want the educated preppy type. Either way, as long as he treats you how you wanted to be treated, that what matters.

I was going to respond to this post when it first got started, but I wanted to hear what other people had to say. This is a never-ending debate, but it's always interesting...
Being that I AM the female that this post is refering to, I must say that I prefer an educated brother. Someone that's decent and respectful. Not loud and ego-centered. Someone honest and not selfish. Someone who has a plan for their life and is not just living on "would of's, could of's, and should of's." Someone who knows the value of a female and treat me as such. Now I do agree with some of the post, because just because you go to college, this doesn't make you educated. So, I'm not referring to the "educated fool." However, seeing as thou I am pursueing my Bachelor's and thinking about my Masters, than I will need a brother that can bring something to the table. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not materialistic, I'm talking about my future. A brother who is not intimidated by my brains and beauty. LOL
I wouldn't even think about a ****, because regardless of what anybody says "A **** don't respect females...not the one their with or the one on the side!!!" It's not in a ****'s nature to be with one female. See, that's just the start of disrespect. Not to mention how he talks at you and not to you. Say what you want, a TRUE **** is nothing to get excited about, especially if you're looking for a relationship. You'll mess around and get "strung out" on that guy and before you know it he'll have you in the bed with another girl **** flicks. Talking about "if you love me you'll_____." (Fill in your own blank.) My brothers, my cousins and their guys are straight thugs and I know enough to know that there is no future with a ****. Now, on the other hand, if we're talking about a wanna-be ****, than he don't count. He's a part-timer.
