Preppy Girls at Howard University? Posted on 05-12-2008
MissIndia

I am applying to Howard University this fall; Early Action! Whew! I am really, really preppy. I talk proper, i wear hollister, american eagle yada yada yada. I was wondering, considering that HU is a historically black college, how would I fit in? Are there other girls who are similar to me there?

Thank you. The school I currently attend has a lot of ghetto people who just can't seem to make a complete sentence. I've always been 'different' & was wondering if I'd encounter that feeling at an HBCU. Can't blame me for being curious.

^So are you a snob or are you preppy? I mean im not pre judeging you but do they seem "ghetto" or did you get to know them? What does "ghetto" mean to you because I happen to live in one but i am in the top 10% in my class and ranked rather high nationally. I also "talk black" as you would probably call it around my friends but thats something you switch on and off in different situations. Just asking. Cant blame me for being curious

I'm not a snob. I'm really reserved & shy. A lot of ppl just tell me "you act like a white girl". They act ghetto. Come on. We all should have an idea form in our head of what acting ghetto is. That's common sense. I didn't say ppl who are ghetto weren't smart. What are you talking about? All I said is that most ppl at my school act that way. End of statement.

I hear you. But I currently go to a PWI where people swear I'm bi-racial simply because of the way articulate myself. I'm not preppy either, I'm a broke-**** student/barista. So, if this is a PWI, then you have to understand that's it's across the board. Anybody who says you act a 'phenomena of light' a.k.a. color is just damn ignorant--no matter what walk of life they're from. Or what institution they go to. Like everybody said, just be yo'self and you'll find others who are like you too. ;p

No you said they seem like they can't complete a full sentence thus making them seem unintelligent. Ghetto is a statement that is used in many forms it jus all depends on how you use it you were speaking in terms of mannerisms I persume? Thats why I stated the question "What does ghetto mean to you?" so I would not misunderstand.

So let me get this straight: you have a cumulative GPA of 2.4 and you are worried about whether or not you will fit in? You need to be more worried about whether or not you will GET in. Let me stop....I'm about to say more than I need to....
