Likelihood of Acceptance? Posted on 06-07-2008

I know I still have 2 more years of high school to go before college, but I saw a thread like this in the forums today, coupled with the feedback the poster got and it made me wonder: Basically, I want to apply to Hampton, FAMU, and NC A&T. As of now I have a 3.7 Cummulative GPA (with most all honors and/or AP courses). Im a part of the National Honor Society, I am a South Carolina Junior Scholar and a part of the Duke University TIProgram, President of GS Tropp, Unarmed OIC (Commander) SC-933 Drill Team, and I play Track, Volleyball, and Tennis. Besides that I volunteer for TeenLine and Charleston County Parks and Recreation year-round, plus GS does a lot of community service. I'm also starting the IB program next year. So if I kept up how I'm doing (adding a few more extracirriculars and hopefully raising my GPA) for the next 2 years, what do you think is the likelihood that I get accepted into any of those schools I listed? (I'm also taking the SAT this year. I took the SAT in 7th grade through the Duke TIProgram and got a 900 ((old scale)) and the PSAT in 8th through SC Junior Scholars, and didnt do bad on that either, so I'm not to worried about my scores.)

You'll be fine... just don't get burned out before you get there! thinking about IB exams plus 150 hrs community service, on top of all of your extracurriculars... been there If you're serious about a career in journalism, Hampton is definitely the place to be. Ever since Tony Brown became dean & Scripps Howard funded the mass communications program, HU has been on point when it comes to developing talent. One of my good friends from college is now working as an editor at WVEC-13 and is doing his own publishing as well. Our program is no joke. Just stay focused and take advantage of every opportunity you get when you're on the yard. And stay away from those James Hall cats, everyone knows the real men are Harkness men.
