Hey everybody,
My name is Alana and I been reading alot about different HBCUs through a few different webites...Its about that time to start narrowin down the ones I wana apply to and visit but im not sure about how to do that. Right Now my top schools (in no particular order) are:
1. NC A&T(Im Kind of being swayed away frfom the aggies)
2. Howard
3. FAMU(Not to sure about)
4. Hampton
5. Winston Salem SU
Right now im mainly lookin into Howard and my question(s) is:
--Do they offer a good amount of scholarships or full rides
--If i am not intending on majoring in bussiness should i still go even though there may be other schools strong in my major
--What made you choose it?/ What makes it fun?
Sorry this thing was so long..lol I could realy appreciate the answers..
i just instantly fell in love with A&T though lol...do your sisters like WSSU??
Mz.OoOSoBriLLiiant what makes FAMU perfect for u?...even though i love them to lol
My sisters love WSSU..except one of my sisters is having problems getting into their nursing program..but other than that they love..also u have to stay on top of them about housing and financial aid..because from what I seen my sisters go through..WSSU be trippin sometimes lol
i visisted hampton for "high school day" its beautiful and i found out that they have a 5 year MBA program...Hampton did seem pretty boring though (I'm trying to get into howard as well because hampton is life 20 minutes away from where i live...if it wasn't so close i would definitely consider hampton but its too freakin close to home lol) CLaSS OF '09
Scholarships regarding tuition at Howard for first time students are based on SAT and/or ACT scores as well as GPA. I believe a 26 on the ACT and a 3.0 will get your just your tuition paid for. All that information is online though. Please go read the WHOLE website for each college you applying to especially if you cannot visit.
If you are not intending on business, yes Howard is still a good school especially for politically driven people because of our location. We have alumni everywhere and doing everything who are more than willing to give you a job after graduation. This is not what your counselors tell you but as a minority you want to go to the school that will give you a good job after graduation. Don't necessarily look at the rankings of the school...ask questions in regards to your major. What is the rate of people getting jobs? How many business fairs do you offer? It means nothing with a degree from a number 1 school if you can't even get the job afterwards. You are just stuck with piece of paper and bills that you can't pay off.
Didn't choose Howard, Howard chose me! Just keeping it real. I went to a historically black high school and was tired of CP time. Wanted to go back to a PWI so HU wasn't even on my list. I had all my applications out in like October and a recruiter for HU came to my school and I applied like a week before early action and here i am.
I make Howard fun for myself. I do what I like and have a great time doing it! You make your Howard experience!
