Howard wants a student who is well rounded. Not someone who is just great in academics but someone who is also as great in extracurricular activites. Community service is important but other activities are as well. It seems like it's been so long since I've been in high school(It's been 2 yrs since I've been out of hs lol), but my activities included Del-Teens(a community service group under Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.), Campus Ambassadors, French Club, Diversity Club, Oustanding Black Acheivers Club, I did community service at a hospital for two years as a candy striper, I tutored elementary school children in math, I volunteered at a Asthma Clinical Study to help children who had Asthma, and I lectured a class at Washington University Medical School on the seriousness of Asthma for over 2 years. Altogether I have hundreds of hours of community service. But that's all that I had when I applied. If you have any other questions let me know! =)
thanks for the reply......it is very helpful and greatly appreciated!!

see my school... has only one AP class and the rest are honors we only have one club... creative writing club or somethin like that... and im not real sure why i transfered there in the first place... only perk is that we take colleges classes along with our high school ones so i'll be transferring college credit(hopefully) to whichever school i go to

why ur parents dont want u to go to Howard, Monique?
well... part of the reason my mom and grandparents don't want me to go is the safety of the area...which yea Washington D.C. isn't the safest city in the country but in today's world we aren't really safe anywhere...another reason is distance from home which....i live in VA and D.C. is like a 3 hour drive away on a good day...and lastly i think they're just stubborn and to attached lol

awww u poor thing... i understand though i live in NC but i have fam in DC and MD so my mom is cool with it... and my mom is not really clingy like that... she wants me to go out of state(she went to NC central... she moved here from DC) she says its a great experience... but all her friends and ppl at church are all like "u dont need to let her go away for school she need to stay right here and go to A&T or something she dont need to be that far from u u cant let her do that" I mean im not knockin NC A&T... okay maybe i am... but i just wont go to college if thats my only option LOL i dont see the issue though... i refuse to be one of those ppl who spend my entire life in one city and never leave... i just cant do it...

yea i can't stand when people like to state their opinion when its not asked...i can't tell you how many times people will tell me i need to stay in state... i feel the same way about hampton university...if thats my only option then... lol.... I don't want to be in the same classes with people that I knew in high school...I feel if i can't go out of state as an undergraduate then i will end up staying in Virgina for the rest of my life.... ...nope i can't let that happen... I think when it comes down to making a decision that they will just let me be happy...because Howard has been my dream since 9th grade...and plus one of my uncles lives 15 minutes from Howard...so it won't be like i don't have anyone to go to thats in the area
