Uppity Negro...
I've noticed that this is the latest "fashion" trend at HU. I know that perspective freshmen have prolly never heard of it before, but how do the current Howardites feel about it? I know its just clothes, but do you feel it sends a positive messege?
I'll post my opinions later...
I realized now that i dont care what people think bout me and if i feel strongly bout sumtin then ima voice myself... kinda like when u see people rockin they favorite team jerseys. but with me.. i dont get down wit jersey game, and rather rock sumtin that shows african pride. just depends on the type of person u are.
Yo I'm definetly feelin that. I love to do the same but sometimes I feel stupid because it be all kinda people just wearin just because :?
well, look like i'm finna hop on that bandwagon cuz that shirt look hot to me. lol Its funny too. I mean, back in the day, if you think about it, white folks did consider an "uppity" negro to be a black man or woman to think or act for themselves. This is like saying "yes, I am uppity. Now what!?!?" I love fashion, and I love to make a statement with my fashion. Yes, I rock my Malcolm X shirt with him holding a machine gun, and I always wear my shirt wit Huey and Fred standing tall. And you know I had to cop that Angela Davis shirt. I do understand though how some people just wear it without knowing the meaning or the true purpose of the person they are wearing. I don't really appreciate that. I will continue to make statements with my clothes, and don't get mad if you see me in the HU wit something crazy written or air-brushed on my trucker hat or wife-****. That's just how I do it! Since people can't read my mind, I let my clothes do the talking.
.....my fashion is trendy, yet revolutionary at the same time
i definatley feel u...i kno i copped my pretty torqoise blue "uppity negress" shirt b4 i left...i love it and wear once in a while when i chill...i like the way u explained it gurl..."yea im uppirty, AND?"
Well i copped my uppity negro shirt over the internet like a month ago. I've rocked it a few times goin out to the mall and the movie theater here in northern virginia. and its funny to see white peoples expression when u walk in a room. confusion is the overall consensus. no white people have had have the courage yet to come up and ask me the meaning... they jus act like they dont see the shirt im wearing but their actions are obvious. oh yea and my shirt is pretty noticeable. heres what it looks like:
I saw a buncha uppity negress shirts when i went to visit Dillard and I liked em and i was wondering where i coulda got mine. But now that I think of it all the people wearing them didn't look like they coulda told me what an uppity negro was the whole trend just seems like it'll become like the Jesus and Mary Homeboy shirts (and i admit I have one) or the Viva Che shirts... people just start to wear them because everyone has one. And that is kinda funny about the white people... kinda reminds me of when I went to school one day with a black panthers t-shirt on lol.

well spoken... lol got me thinkin u needa design ur own line. shoooot i would rock it by the way u talkin.
I would support you too I think the idea behind the line is a good one. My whole thing is their sincerity. If they truly believe what they are portraying then good for them. At the same time if they are just tryna start the next fad and feed off the Afro-Pride movement...they need to be shot
lol u should see when i wear my ungreatful negro shirt and the nasty looks whites and blacks give me but i dont care. its so funny.
