Do I have a chance? Could I get accepted? Posted on 03-03-2009
NotMyRealName

At Howard University.. Here is my stuff. Please be completely honest. Activites: Varsity Debate Team Academic Decathlon (made it to state) Mock Trial attorney S.A.D.D. (President) DECA (Vice-President of school chapter) Elite Choir (top select of singers from all of our choirs) Solo Contest (got division 1) NAACP Recycling Club Grades (my problem): Freshman year: 1.1 Sophomore year: 2.2465 Junior year: 3.2 Senior year: Hopefully a 4.0, I'm trying.. Those should (with the 4.0) add up to about a 2.6 GPA. But with my situation, it would probably be best that apply early action, and that's first semester of my senior year.. so they wouldn't even really see the 4.0. Without it, it would average to be about a 2.2 GPA. And even with first semester of a 4.0 senior year, it would average to be about a 2.3-2.4 GPA. ACT: 30 I am VERY aware that that is a horrible GPA to graduate with, and I truly regret it. The problem was that 3 days before my freshman year started my father died from cancer. I was depressed and that got in the way of me reaching my full potential. Sophomore year my mother remarried. I just really want to go to Howard University. It really is my dream school, and I hope with every bone in my body that I get accepted. I don't think there's any other applicant that wants this as bad as I do. I know that sounds naive, but it feels right to say. My desired major is Afrkan studies. I know that's not a very popular major, so that might help me. Or will it? I just really need some honest predictions... What do you think? At this point, I'm not banking on scholarships or anything. I just want to get accepted; that's my only goal. I want this. I don't want your 2 cents, I want all the change you have. Tell me the truth.. And no, I refuse to go to community college for 2 years.

real talk shawty...you might not get in...not tryin to rain on your parade, but I know people that had high GPAs & scores & still didn't get in..just apply for an EASY major, like political science your best bet is to have a major in the school of arts & sciences, then just change your major when you get there
funny u should say that..im a political science major and i dont think its an "easy major" but w/e. and i also dont believe your major will give you a better chance of getting in.

i'll try to help u as someone who has already gotten in and got a scholarship...you asctivities r really good. it shows that u can b involved and balance ur grades. I was really involved and had good grades too. personally i think wen it comes down to it...SAT scores r wat they really look at. if ur SAT scores wrre pretty decent u should b fine. I saw your class rank and I was like OMG ...u only have 84 ppl in ur graduating class. I was ranked 33 out of 839 and i was **** because we lost like 200 ppl since freshman year. Because your so involved they will probably take you but u will probably have to look other places for money...keep hope alive. me... i think i might turn down my scholarhip to go to Spelman. Good Luck!!

Umm, I would say both yes and no for that one. Each school/college within Howard University also has their own requirements for admission so it can either be a positive or negative depending on the major.
