^^ i disagree not all of our styles come from the white man. in fact, very few come from teh white man. as a matter of fact, it really depends on who you are and where youre from, and to stereotype black people as unoriginal is kinda..uhh..(dont know the word) but yeah..and as a matter of fact, i wont wear what usher kanye q-tip any of them wear cause thats not my style. i think black people have their own style, and you say its unoriginal because many of the styles are common.

I disagree and agree, I shouldnt have brushed all black ppl with the same stroke of the brush. Some of us are rather original with our style of dress and look but sadly what is original will eventually become commerical...But A majority of this so-called hip hop/rap generation are extremely unoriginal. Rather take another idea and just throw a new coat of paint on it. I understand u really cant change a shirt, or some pants but least make them look different. But u know whats funny the very same clothing alot of us wear has been test marketed a yr in advance or so under a different brand name, like ppl get clowned if they were 15 dollar jeans or something but its a hot style but u dont know who makes those 15 dollar jeans but as soon as it hits a target number that company stops making the product and that product moves on to the top company like sean john etc.... Its just like music half the top selling artists dont really sell they use cardscan, where the labels and radio stations send employees to stores with a credit card to buy out the store so it can be reported as a sale, Cam isnt really a top selling artist, neither is diddy and neither is brittney its all smoke and mirrors same thing with clothing. We just write all style other than name brands off. Hell this girl told me Prada(I think prada some big label to be safe) is coming out with Prada/big label label'd chinese slippers that sell for 75 to 150 a piece, I bet u women will buy them in droves b/c of the name. The basis of my argument is we are stuck on who makes what and that leads to everyone looking the same rather than wearing what WE LIKE not what the magazines or fashion talking heads say. Thats y we r unoriginal and have a herd mentality.

but also, we like what looks good. and they put out what looks good. now lets say some bootleg jeans comes out wit stripes down the side and patches on the knees. will i buy it? no. now if a akademiks label was put on those jeans, would i buy it then? no. maybe i'm different, but i like what looks good. now, if some bootleg jeans looked hot, had a nice style, would i buy it? no. so i dont know where im going with this then.

What looks good is all a matter of opinion though. What one may think looks nice, another may think is the ugliest thing they have seen. For example, i think those minolo(sp?) boots for women that look like timbs are hideous but everyone seemed to think they were the cutest thing :? I'll never get it.

^^ I still think Blacks are more trendy than any other race in the USA. Any remember when people wore Nascar Racing Jackets?? That wasn't too long ago.. Remember IceBerg and the Platinum FUBU series?? People would pay crazy money for a shirt with Buggsy Bunny on it.. Wearing pink from head to toe is starting to go out of style now.. What's next?? I'm willing to bet guys will start wearing those loud **** sweaters Kanye West wears in his videos, with the polo shirt underneath.. I'm sorry bro..Blacks don't have an identity when it comes to fashion because it changes every 3-6 Months

I still disagree, you know why? We are black, and we keep up to date on black fashion and all else, so we realize what happens with us a lot more than we do with whites because we don't pay attention to what they do as much. With fashion alone, on average we may spend more money than whites because a lot of them don't care about how they dress. Their trends may not occur quite as often as black trends. But please believe that whites will jump on new trends just as quick or quicker than blacks. Thing is, in general blacks dress more alike than whites do. There are some whites who just don't give a damn what they wear and have been dressin the same since high school...there are some who try to dress like whatever the hottest pop stars wear...there are some who dress like blacks, or at least they try to..etc etc. So I'd say we may spend the most money on fashion trends compared to other races, but I wouldnt' say we are any more trendy than they are because it's hard to compare races because there are some who do and some who don't follow anything at all. Aside from fashion and arguably cars, all races are about the same when it comes to trendiness. White people have plastic surgery. different types of diets, and **** implants much more than blacks, and many of that is based off of what is trend.

ummm.. Ii think Iota was talking abotu the lifespan of fashion.. well.. white america changes t heir fashion every season.. as in.. every 4 months... don't forget that there is a difference between fads and trends.... fads are the things that are really hot for like 1 minute, and then are REALLY cold... them shyts never come back... Trends are the things that are continually noticed.. like, they never die... For example... Fad: Pogs Trend: Blogs Fad: Bootleg Jersey Dresses Trend: Jerseys Just wait.... someone will make the game hot again and then Jerseys will be hot again..

I don't think most of you all see things the way that I do with this topic. First of all...AMERICANS are trendy...being that most of us are African Americans, we fit into that category. How the f**k can you say Blacks are trendy but act as if whites aren't??? White people will wear damn near anything that is hot on TV, buy any new artist that is supposed to be the "next big thing" follow every fad diet that comes out, fall in love with whoever the biggest stars are to the point that they have real feelings for them, and watch whatever TV show is "the hottest show." Now with blacks and clothes, call it trendy, but there is always good reason to why we are trendy. With throwbacks, I can see the evolution from when everybody wanted one, to why the died out. AS SOON as the bootleg throwbacks came out, which are definitely the ones that you can get for 20-30 dollars, it **** the game because you couldn't tell who's was real and who's wasn't. I don't care if it had the real stitching and the mitchell and ness tags with $300.00 price tag...THEY ARE FAKE. Therefore, many people realized how much fake Sh*t was goin around and they were like hell nah, this is ****. Not only that, but when they first came out, you would see somebody like "damn! he got the Dr. J red Sixers!" but then when you see 100 people at the mall with the same jerseys, they just don't excite you anymore. This is how trends go, regardless. We have a herd mentality, but being raised in America and being able to see what's on TV and all else, who doesn't? There are people who claim that they never follow trends and wear what they like and all, but most of them aren't doing anything special. Yeah it does seem stupid when people will wear somethin just because Kanye did it, but you can't tell me whites asians and all aren't different...Sh*t look overseas and see how closely they follow american trends. Bottom line....new things come and people like it, then everybody does it and after a while it dies out and somethin new comes...that's the circle of life when it comes to trends.
i agree with this post. i guess its just all how you look at the history of trends in america, and deciding on what you like. i just dont like it when peeps r only buying apparel just b/c someone famous is rockin it. if u like it for yourself, then thats coo. but dont get it jus cuz ur favorite rapper has it on in his/her new video.
