Famous Hamptonians Posted on 08-13-2004

I was reading Ebony Magazine when I came across the article, 'The Black College Harvest: graduates have transformed America'. I was reading this list of extraordinary HBCU graduates when I saw a Hamptonian misrepresented. Wanda Sykes was on page 124 and named as a Spelmanite when most know that she is Hamptonian. I was just wondering if anyone else noticed this faux pas. And she graduated not with a B.A. it was a BS in Marketing.

^^^ Lol...they had the same 5-7 students in all of those pictures in that article. Also just to add to what Courtney said Wanda Sykes graduated in 1986 (i believe) and pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha at HU. I can find some more famous people..but I know Spencer Christian (an anchor-man) graduated from HU. And some basketball player. Also we have a 400 meter hurdler who graduated a while back competing in this year's Olympics.

^^^ Yeah...forgot the name Funny how I learned that fact. I was taking the Student Leader test and it was 4 famous HU grads that we had to match with their careers....so I knew two..but it was him and a guy with a jewish sounding name. I figured Mahorn sounded like a basketball player...turns out I was right.

My friend Khaiel(who's at Spelman) said Raven doesn't go there. She looked for her , and she hasn't seen her at any of the freshman activities.... she asked around and everyone told her it was just a rumor that wasn't true. Maybe they are trying to keep her attendance a secret.... but why would they do that?

I did notice the Wanda Sykes one. I was **** because I wrote a brief story on her in last year's homecoming issue of the Script, and I put her HAMPTON U yearbook picture in there also. One of my friends had the nerve to argue with me and tell me that she didn't go to Hampton. Shame on Ebony Mag creating confusion.
