Everybody always talkin bout "You dreadin' your hair", "Your "dreads" look nice. "Dread this, Dread that". What happened to the "Locs" part. dread ( P ) Pronunciation Key (drd) v. dread·ed, dread·ing, dreads v. tr. To be in **** of. To anticipate with alarm, distaste, or reluctance: dreaded the long drive home. Archaic. To hold in awe or reverence. Profound fear; ****. Fearful or distasteful anticipation. See Synonyms at fear. An object of fear, awe, or reverence. Why should you be terrified of them. Or why should they scare you. They are beautiful. To me anyways. I was looking at something and I don't know how true this is but they people who first looked at the people with locs, dreaded them because they looked scary or something. Like I said, don't quote me on that but I was just looking at something. Anyways, I was just starting this post to let you all know there is nothing to Dread about locs....so let's stop dreadin' and just start locin. lol. They are LOCS not Dreads.....do no fear them, they are nothing to fear. How do you feel about the situation.(This is just no for people with locs in their hair.) Here are some responses posted on another forum:

I REALLY don't think people say "Dreads" for the purpose of meaning it's something bad. Don't nobody feel like saying "Dreadlocks" all the time. It's more of an adopted universal habit than a secret disdain for the hairstyle. *Walks out singing Redemption Song*

I love locs on a woman. Especially is she's dark-skinned wit white teeth, around 5'3 or 5'4, brown eyes, high cheekbones, got T & A for days , is in shape..... Or if she looks like Mya then Christmas came early to Cuperman.....growl!!!

That's a nice conspiracy theory you got there, (someones name), but do you actually KNOW people who think this way about dreadlocks? If not, don't worry about it.
Quote:
that is not a conspiracy theory. You may carry on now...

actually, (name) is right. The term originated around the 60's or so, with the word 'dread' among rastafarians pointing to the 'dread' or 'fear' of Jah. You be reachin, (name).
Those are just some responses.

I've seen white people with locs.
Generally the hair doesn't lock by itself. There's some kind of additive that has to be used (generally beeswax) to get the hair to lock. I'on want all that garbage in my hair.

That's fine, but the point is you could lock it if you wanted to. It doesn't matter HOW it gets locked, but the point that its lockable.

um...okay...thank you my mom has locs and i think that they look really good. my only thing is that a lot of people out here in the bay loc their hair just because, there is no meaning behind it, so they end up acting ignorant and putting a bad reputation around that style. i think if a person has a purpose then they're an excellent idea. i have a little fro myself...my puff is not too far into the future 8)

Then don't put garbage in your hair! You can loc with whatever. Maybe an aloe vera gell or other light substance but one generally shouldn't use beeswax. Ever!

Actually, I have a cousin with hair like mine, who has locks. He tried a whole lot of other, lighter stuff, but none of them ever worked. He had to use beeswax. I'd rather just colour my hair...

The bible has alot of rules or restriction...
You’re referring to Halakhah—the way one walks--the complete body of rules and practices that we Jews are bound to follow, including biblical commandments, commandments instituted by the rabbis, and binding customs. Christians follow the basic Ten Commandments, but if your read the first 5 books of the Christian Old Testament, you will see that the Ten Commandments are actually “chapter” headings for 613 Mitzvot (Commandments). The 613 Mitzvot are further broken down into positive (248) and negative (365) deeds. There is NO person on earth that must submit to ALL 613 Mitzvot, as they apply to various subjects for women, men, land owners, priests, residents if Isael, the temple, which is not standing, etc. So Mitzvot that apply specifically to women would not pertain to a man. Of the 613, only 100 or so apply to me, and a majority of them are laws within our country’s constitution. Here are some of the 14 Books (categories) of Mitzvot: G-d (we do not say or write the true name of Hashem, lit. “The Name” in reverence for Him, and to not speak His name in vain on purpose or in error), Knowledge, Seasons, Women, Holiness, Service, Oaths, etc. Most people follow the Mitzvot (laws) and do not realize they are doing so. I think Miztvot are just common sense.

I do not know about what the Christian bible states about restrictions and rules, but the Tanakh (Jewish Bible) states NOTHING about no piercing or eating meat with RED blood. Last I time I checked, ALL meat/fish has red blood outside of shellfish. Not eating animals with red blood is NOT correct. But I applaud you for seeking knowledge of another culture. In actuality, practicing Jews (not Reform or Reconstructionist, though) do not eat meat that was slaughtered by a non-Jew. We are not to eat the blood of an animal as many pagan societies of old used to eat blood in rituals, and if you understand the Bible, G-d was not pleased with such a practice. Animals that are blemish free, unlike the meat found at your local grocery store, are butchered so the blood drains thoroughly, but not entirely, which is impossible. Supermarket meat is **** by gunshot, and sits for hours as the blood congeals within the flesh, kosher meat on the other hand, is slaughtered by slitting the neck and hung upside down. After the animal has been butchered, then it is “salted”. This means, the blood is drawn out further by coating the flesh in salt several times. This process applies only to red meat and poultry. Fish is slaughtered via halakhah, but not salted; and of course, we (Jews) do not eat pork, shell fish, or fish without scales. Getting a tattoo on the other hand, IS forbidden in Scripture

The Rastafarians try to live by the bible so that why they grow locs and use mostly natural plants, vegetables and fruits, and never eat meat as part of they daily diet . This is how they extinguish themselves from other men.
Why are Rastafarians trying to wipe themselves off the face of the planet by “extinguishing” themselves from other men? I bet you meant to say: This is how they DISTINGUISH themselves from other men, no? Where have I heard such misuse of English before…hmmm :? …I remember--that show, In Living Color! We have just about every episode on tape. You remind me of Tommy Davidson in the jail scenes, talking incoherently, but thinking he sounds intelligent. It’s as if you wrote the scripts. Brotha man, purchase a dictionary, thesaurus, synonym/antonym finder, use your spell/grammar check in Word or something, PLEASE; speak not on subjects you have no understanding of.
